decided to build a tube amp for my nephew. step one was to fabricate the front panel. this is all made in my basement workshop. time elapsed from start to complete is 2.5 hours. it is made from 2" x 1/8" 6061 T651 Aluminum Bar stock. total cost for materials is about $2.
This will be a 5 week project as that's when the transformers are set to arrive.

Sorry,I don't understand your question.
I presume he was referring to the lettering?.
I filled the letters with black crayon. It's an old trick I learned many years ago. Works great and crayola makes any color you could want.

I think the question was referring to how you created the letters in the metal, not how you filled them in? 🙂
BTW - it looks really great.
The letters are v-carved on my DIY CNC router.
Nice 😀
How about some pictures (or a video?) of that?
I don't have any video of it cutting aluminum. It goes pretty slow, but who's in a hurry anyway. I'll shoot some video and post it when i cut the top. That'll be next week, hopefully.
There's some video of the cnc and lots of pictures in the build thread at Dave's made from samples benchtop router thread
That's some good looking work! What kind of circuit are you going to put in that beauty?

Made progress on the top panel and the chassis... not sure how to post the video of the machine cutting it.
