Enclosure for FE207e and AN Super 8 CF Comparison

So I'm about 90% done with construction and have them playing as we speak.
Now that my speakers have some sides on them they sound much better 🙂 . But seriously, the rising response seems more tame now there there is some solid midbass. The low end could really use some help, and I have yet to put any serious series resistance. I'm going to start playing around with values soon. I only have listened to the AN8s thus far, I've yet to try the 207s and need to rebuild the suprabaffles for them (I want a different style than what I've done). Basically my suprabaffle will screw into the mounting holes that the AN8 uses. The FE207 will then mount to the suprabaffle.

I tried something different on theses, I decided to add diffusers. I cut a bunch of triangular strips and lined the back baffle with them. I then covered them with felt.

The overall sound: very wide soundstage. Lifelike. Detailed (likely due to the rising response). Male vocals really shine. Listened to a lot of Ray Lamontagne and Steely Dan. These are much more forward than the B&W 602s. Perhaps not as in your face as the FE127s (although it has been a while). So far have not had any listening fatigue, but at times I've gotten a little annoyed with how bright they can be.

Thanks,

Josh

On Thursday Rahul (ra7) and I got together. I brought these, my FE127 in GM's MLTL and my Nuforce Icon. Rahul has a pair of AN8 in folded voigt pipes. We concluded that my ANS8CF in these enclosures were well balanced. These are lacking in bass, while his folded voigts served endless amounts of tight bass. My speakers also sounded more forward. When I get back to school in January I'm going to try out the FE-207 and see how it fares.

The w8-1772 looks like a great driver and definitely something I want to hear. I'm interesting in hearing more reviews.

Hi edjosh23, beautiful work there.

1. Did you try BSC? I read the thread but haven't seen that mentioned (though you said you may try series resistance).

2. You mention that Raul's folded voigt had endless amounts of tight bass. Nice! Were they mass-loaded at the end, i.e. with a port or just open like a BiB?

hi edjosh23 - are your enclosures tuned by just a tiny slot? my Nirvana 10 input z curves with Woofer Tester 3 in ~41Hz tuned reflex and Karlson 15" cabinet (~50Hz) suggested effective fs on the 10 around 50Hz or higher - I think Vas might have been best measured in a sealed box
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
