E-MU 0404 AK4396 to Broskie Unbalancer Audible differences?

I listened to the 'difference'

In the tube dac the difference is a few orders of magnitude lower and it sounds quite close to the original...
Bass is a bit bloated just a little, the mid frequencies are attenuated and the high have a little bit of high pitch distortion and a raised frequency response, as it can be seen in the graphics...

On the contrary the difference with the SS dac is quite annoying to hear it has way more distortion and is very loud enough.
The bass is missing but the midrange is very distorted and extremely aggressive and bad sounding.

For some reason I get quite different results with DeltaWave. Computer seems to be closer to original.

The pcm J has some 'trademark' sound of the pcm53-k, still not a K!

I listened to ATMA recordings of cantata #72 and Wachet bwv#140 from an older record...

With PCM you hear everything, timing is incredible, you ear triangles, bells, all wood instruments bow hitting the strings with the resonance of the horse hairs, it has an incredibly relaxed sound, you hear clearly the tone of each singer and you are able to tell the age group of a choir, by the general expression and tone of voice.

On the other hand the emu0404 has more 'air' and a larger scene but lacks depth. On crescendo of soprano choirs it sounds like chocking ducks. it lacks the expression, but you hear more hoboes separately and voices are more airy.

The PCM gets that female voices crescendos shouting while it can bring back other textures clearly like males voices, other instruments, while remaining detailed.

If I could rate on 100 , 3 dacs : I would rate stock hifi dacs as 5/100, the emu0404 20/100, and PCM 90/100

It makes me not even want to try a tube output, because I like the sound as is with the opamps.

I changed the stock opamps to AD, then I changed the filter stage opamps to OPA134.... and kept the AD in the I/V

... major difference, way more layering of details, I heard sounds and instruments and the provenance of confused sound now in a clear way... the details are in all registers... I just listened with my poor HD600... I never heard them sound like that...

I wonder what it would sound like with my Grados which are a league above in clarity and 'pep'

I still have to upgrade the bit adjusters for 4 of them, switch more opamps, 1611, 604, and may also use the opa134 in the I/V., upgrade regulators for the dac... and digital sides, maybe switch some parts too, and the digital filter.
This sounds like a 25k vinyl setup haha...

Ill upload the new samples this weekend.

I rechecked the fine synch, it is spot on bit per bit, and length is the same.

The bottom point is that when I listen to the difference the distortion result is very horrible with the computer dac. The EMU with tube output sound very nice.

I don't know which other test I should make, I have the pcm58 which I could test too to hear some of the THD pattern that it has...

Listening to the difference is not the best way to judge the DeltaWave results. Small differences in matching (especially timing) will be heard in transients. And since you are listening to the difference the better it sounds the more is lost compared to the original. As an extreme example difference of original and silence sounds just like the original.

The graphs I showed in post #46 are better indicators.
