Emu 1616m pci with pci express adapter?

Thank you indeed 1audio. I remember reading that at higher sample rates ie; 96/192 KHz the track count too is correspondingly reduced. I also read that the patchmix works best @ 48KHz in ASIO with the 1616M & doesn't do well at all in WDM! I'll find the link. Do you mean that I should have installed both the 1616M & Expresscard adapter before installing the Sonar DAW? Is your interface 1616M? This unit complicates things considerably due to it's outdated cardbus & drivers! I'm particularly interested in hearing from those who're using 1616m in Win7/64.

I have 1010 PCI cards in two PC's, one running XP the other Win 7/32. It works fine in both. I have not had a reason to update the Win 7 machine to 64 bit, it only has 4 GB of ram. I have used the cardbus interface on a laptop which also worked fine.

I'm using a 20' Cat 5E cable with no problems. I seem to be able to access all the channels from the 1616M at 192. The onboard DSP engine is bypassed (no loss for me) when operating at 2X or 4X. ADAT will have limitations at the higher sample rates but that is true for any ADAT interface.

Yes, both pci & pcie users have work arounds as these 2 are more flexible i.m.h.o. However things get a bit more complicated going the cardbus/ expresscard route, unless one buys an additional pci/ pcie card for pc only use!

My custom built studio, recording only Asus, P5P800, XP/32 based rack pc's MB packed up due to the BIOS chip calling it a day which was irreplaceable! Since then I've gone through 3 XP/32 laptops, & realized their limitations after going Win 7/64! Perhaps life would be much simpler if I went back to xp!

I'd be more than happy if only I could get this to work even in 24Bit/48KHz sample rate as you probably already know even ADAT works only in 48KHz & the USB bandwidth too is further reduced with increased track counts, but Express route is as good as PCI/PCIe sonic quality wise I.M.H.O

have a pleasant weekend!

SUCCESS!
An IT wizard friend who happens to work for Lenovo service locally here has successfully installed the Win 7/64 beta drivers for the 1616M! However, the EMU PCMCIA cardbus/Startech expresscard adapter wasn't recognized at 1st & all the LEDS on the EMU microdock stayed lit up! Then presto, both cards were recognized when the the microdock was switched off & then on! Then he installed the "patchmix" & it showed all systems "go"! I've now reinstalled the DAW & will try to hook up the midi keyboard & see if everything is working as it should or not!

Here's the link for the beta drivers.

http://support.creative.com/downloads/welcome.aspxnLanguageLocale=1033&nDriverType=1#type_1

This was the procedure he followed, I think!!

1.Insert EMU cardbus/cardbus adapter to the express card slot?
2.Install the driver (normally it detects & installs the driver by default)
3.Install the Beta driver;
"Multimedia Audio Controller" driver for the " EMU
System" Cardbus found in: Support.creative.com/downloads
4.Install the "Patchmix"
5.Install the DAW software.

I guess there still life in this beauty..i mean the 1616m & I'm indeed a happy man!

I stumbled upon this PCMCIA > PCI-e adapter by chance! It may or may not work with the EMU 1616m! it's the only one of it's kind I found so far apart from an OMTRON card which is now discontinued.

I found it in this website

B.t.w,I found this excellent test review in this link below;

http://ixbtlabs.com/articles2/proaudio/emu-1616m.html

Most importantly, we need to find out if this pcie adapter will work or not, but suppose there's no other way other than buy one & try it out?

A1Audio,why was the DSP bypassed in your set up?

Just a reminder to those who are planning on ordering this. This pci-e card most probably may not work with the older 16 bit PCMCIA Cardbus cards! So please check compatibility before ordering.

Windows 10

Hi,

just a quick update. I couldn't resist the urge to update to Windows 10. Things work flawlessly, I had to reinstall the drivers (EmuPMX_PCDrv_US_2_30_00.exe from December 2014) and, hey presto!

I usually had stabilty problems with STEPS (latest version, but all others before also...), but so far I have not been able to crash the app!

So, for me, the upgrade paid off well!

Best regards,

1616m pci

Hello i had to make an account just for this. So I wanted to ask if i understood correctly that I can use newest drivers intended for e-mu 1616m pci-e version with my pci card.

I haven´t had the guts to try since the download page specifically states it should not be used for pci based solutions.

Someone in earlier post said he used pci-e to pci raiser and the newest pci-e drivers with succes. I´m not tech savvy enough o know is the raiser then mandatory or would the pci card run just fine with new drivers too. Older drivers work ok-ish but i get these nasty sounding snaps from time to time.

old thread i know. Would appreciate any extra info on this.

Hmm i tried it and seemed fine at first but then patchmix started getting slow and unresponsive. Then when i started a pro tools session it bluescreened my cpu. Happened twice 🙁

Dunno i´m starting to get grey hair over this. Maybe it´s time to give up on the dream to get this running with win 7 x64 and either downgrade my operating system or get a new soundcard.

I tried both PCI and PCIe driver on vista x86 and win10 x64 machine with PCMCIA card and PCI driver is more stable so I picked one.
PCI driver is also not so stable , sometimes patchmix do not work utterly and ! appears on the device manager.
It works after uninstall & reinstall driver but sometimes don't , at the situation I tried remove registry entries ,searching E-MU or creative professional ,etc. The error seems to happen when I disconnect and connect the card.
I once thought the card is gone so teared down the case to look inside. There was AK4395 and 2x NJM2114 IIRC.
