Elizabeth has died

I MUCH pity Prince Charles, robbed of his crown for at least 30-35 years ... if not more.

What can he do now, in the very few years of life remaining? (if that many).

And no, this is not Politics, since British Royalty has not had any influence in that area for well over 100 years, I am only commenting on a famous but dysfunctional Family, at Family level.

Unfortunately the UK (most countries) have an historic past that we look back on and are ashamed by - be it war, slavery, exploitation or broken promises.
The past is set in stone, all we can do is build bridges for the future.

It will be interesting, given charles is 73, how rapid the change over the next 25 years will be. I wont get political but the UK and the world have their problems.

Although I disagree politically aspects of conservatives, I do appreciate she's had to make a rather large transition over the last few few days and that announcement she did seem to be grimacing. I will forego the jokes at this time.

UK does seem to be quieter/subdued than normal. I was watching the news during the announcement and the Mrs was having her daily call with the mother-in-law in France. The French TV stopped the programming to announce about 5 minutes after. I hear the wallstreet stock exchanged stopped too.

It is interesting to read the condolences from world leaders - even those in conflict - which offered more than a passing acknowledgement.

I think the UK is tied to this image of a queen and not a king mostly because the true founder of UK was a queen named Elizabeth the first which was indeed a trully remarcable person by all standards.
I'm not british so it's a bit more difficult to have a personal take on the subject , but I can't see the general public close to Charles or Phillip or any man as England's monarch.

True words and not often heard. It maybe would be a good thing if he skips and passes the function to one of his sons?! Who wants to start at 73 with such a forced protocol job after decades of relative freedom?!

I’m not a royalist but I am human. My condolences and can appreciate the length of service, discipline and focus. I can raise a glass to her.

Two days ago she ushered in the new UK prime minister.
I was an Elizabethan not a monarchist. I have no idea how Charles or William might perform in the role, perhaps I'll be a republican next. There's no chance of finding anyone who'd be a better president than HRH was Queen. She was spectacularly good at the job.

Yes, I'd wondered this, and there's been years of speculation about it. But I think Charles wants his go at the job. But realistically, more than 10 years? I can't see it, and I wonder if the reins will chafe after few years.

She had the name of a woman who sacrificed everything she had for England. She had to be tough or leave.
I have to say that seeing the movie Elizabeth I was deeply impressed. It may have not been the whole truth , but I think she was the greatest politician of the last 500 years and I found the Message on the SIS page being the essence of her politics and one worthy of being used by every nation that wants to master the world instead of being its slave. You can only understand her if you've lived in a country that took all the s**t thrown at it by others.

My Mother pointed out last night that she is on her 5th monarch now in her lifetime. She is one of the few though.
Hi Bill,
Born during the reign of George V? My mom just missed it - my mom was born in 1931 but missed Charles III by 5 months..

I think we should give Charles a chance, an erudite gentleman he seems suited and was groomed for the role.
