electrostatic speaker question

hi I have Janszen Z-30's Which I have owned since new(bought about 1980 -1982). They had been sitting for about 5 years as they stopped working. At time I was too busy to look at them. I now have looked at and found that a wire had broken. And low and behold when I reconnected the wire the speakers worked, but not as I remembered.
So I Decided to do a rebuild.
Previously I had one of the crossovers worked on( by an extremely reputable electrostatic speaker specialist in Melbourne. Australia) .In which resistors and diodes were replaced. One of my question's is. Two of original resistor's in the circuit were 82Megohm and were replaced with 2 x 10 Megohm. They worked. But at the time the output seemed less.Compared to the other speaker which was still working and unmodified. Why would this be?
I have now replaced the crossover capacitors and matched work previously done by Melbourne tech. The sound quality of speakers has increased considerably. I have tested all of the capacitors removed and they are all well within spec. So why do the speakers sound so much better?
Also if I was able to get 82 Megohm resistors would they actually sound better as per the original speaker that had sounded better but needed rebuild.(Diodes and resistors had started to degrade and corrode).🙂

Janszen z-30's crossover

Yes I am certain that the originals were 82Megohms . Also in the path to the panels there is a 50 Megohm resistor just before each panel. The resistors are Allen Bradley(visual I.D.) colour code: grey, red, blue, silver.

With my Acoustat 121 ESL interfaces.....the bias has a 500meg...if this is dropet to 20-30meg the speakers have 3-4 more DB output an sound like a diff speaker!

So wile on paper the 500meg an the 82meg may be right....sound wise lower megohms are better....the 20meg let the panels keep up when there drive hard....an i get the best topend i have got out of any ESL..
with the 500meg it can sounds like ......there runing out of gas..............
Now if the humidity. is never above 50%it seems the 500meg works fine.....but it not as fast sounding an there more bass...sound fater....an not bad sounding to most... but the panels can buzz an sound overloded...when driven hard....
an the amp driveing the ESL have a hard time keeping up....an people start looking for biger are better amps to drive the panels with....

So the 82meg in your setup were dropet to 10meg.....the speakers have more output now.....better top end..... can get the bias faster if it need it...an geting the 30 years old caps out..... an upgreading them did not heart anythere eather.....also i have found diff res. can make a BIG diff in the sound in the meghoms............

This is all just my finding after haveing Acoustat an others ESL....an doing ever mod i can to get the best sound out of ESLs......an liveing were it 70-90%humidity. 330 day a year....

I have my Acoustat 121 bias setup so i can go from 500-20-5 megohms.........wont to gess the best sounding.....?.......an most output with No stress to the sound...?

how about the sound of 1/4w carbons like some use....?....an 1w A/B carbons...all 10%
An metfim type 1%1/2w.............thay all sound diff......

these Acoustat ESL can ROCK..........My buds SoundLabs M1s cant keep up....know matter what amps he uses........hehe...
