There are many introduction to AC/DC electronics reference/ study books. Pick one up and at minimum learn Ohms law. Do that and with your experience it will take you to the next step

Thank you for all of the responses. Obviously I have a long way to go so will try to make progress regularly. I'll keep plugging away at restoring my amps while I'm learning, I think it's good to have a real project to keep me motivated
