I'm looking for a copy of the schematic for the old (mid 70's ???) Mike Matthews "Freedom Amp" that Electro-Harmonix used to make. Almost bought one way back when but didn't. Now I'm thinking of building one for my own amusement. I know, it's not a good as some of the newer amps but it's a "nostalgia" thing for me. Thx in advance, Thom.
No. My past experiences with factories is that they don't like to hand out "confidential" information no matter how old it may be.

Many are quite happy to do so, it's always worth asking.
Actually, I think it is not that bad. Good cabinet construction, proper speaker, well designed electronics (albeit a bit quirky), what's not to like?
I think I've seen a schematic somewhere but I don't remember where, have you tries DIYstompboxes.com and freestompboxes.org?
And a lot of companies don't mind these schematics floating around, they realise that:
A. There are not that many people building stuff instead of buying it.
B. It's not THAT cheap to build it yourself
C. Guitar electronics is not rocket science, most of the schematics are not even remotely original
D. Their value add is not in making the same products ad infinitum, it's about continuously evolving and creating new products (something electro harmonix does very well).

The manufacturer's concern is not that someone will clone one in their basement. They are not really worried that some competitor will "steal" their circuits. There is rarely something new in a guitar amp anyway. ANyone who needs a schematic for such nefarious purpose can simply set a technician down at a table with a sample product and have him draw up a schematic from the unit itself.
Their concern is that in a potential patent infringement case against an actual competitor, they wan't to be able to say they made a diligent effort to protect their intellectual property - the technical documentation.
Some companies are extreme - Behringer for example - while other companies are more than happy to send it out of you ask - Peavey for example.

Need Help
Hey I'm trying to make a clone of the Mike Marshall Freedom Amp, which is similar to the Dirt Road Special, but I'm having trouble finding a transformer that would be compatible with it. Looking at the schematic above, the output stage requires +60V DC. Could someone recommend me a transformer that would do the trick. I'm laying out a board now and look forward to sharing it with you, once it's build and tested. I would really appreciate your help.
