El 84 PP which one?

Why not buy a cheap reissue GZ34, and run SS diodes between the plates and the transformer sec. The SS diodes do all the work, and you still get the voltage drop across the tube.

This has been suggested before by Eli & George (tubelab) for various designs, & old Dynaco ST70's.

I have been using JJ GZ34 in my amps with good success. No need for SS diodes with those.

You can get the JJs for around 15€ new at a number of places in Germany. I don't know if that qualifies as a reasonable price ... 🙂
