EI transformer buzzing

Hello

-Id like to ask what causes that my EI transformer buzzes without load, but when I apply load, it just gets crazy (vibrations+loud buzzing).

Its about 50W, 28V on secondary, so that would mean 1.8A of max. current.

Ive applied 50 Ohm load, so 28V on 50 Ohm would be 0.6A, which is about 35% of transformer power usage.

Ive also detected fast warming up, really strange for 35% usage.
(for load i used my broken LM3875*it has 50Ohm resistance between + and - *, since i dont have 50W resistor)

best regards

It sounds as though your transformer is defective. Maybe it once overheated. I wonder if such an occurrence could cause the iron laminations to short together. Normally they are separated by lacquer.

Another possibility is that a winding has become shorted internally. Maybe the insulation on the windings became damaged by overheating or a from a power surge.

The last idea I have is that there could be a little DC component on the power line. I don't think the problem would always be the same, then though.
