I have been playing around with some trial open-baffles now for a few months. Seen HERE
The baffles are just a piece of chipboard (particle board) but with a sheet of one inch (25mm) thick polystyrene foam on top.
I just wondered how much the 'softness' of the polystyrene foam affects the sound, particularly with regard to the step response.
Any comments guys?

Hy,
i don't know if i understood you right, but you have to be very canny with any kind of damping material. I also use open buffle system and the reproduction is verry natural. But whan i use to much damping material like felt, the reproduction is to dull. I implemented 2 dipole Sub in my system with an active amplifier
from Thommessen. You can see it on my homepage under www.highend-diskus.de " meine Anlage ". Is a german page, but i think you will find the pictures. I serched 15 years for a loudspeaker like this. Now i have find it !!! For questions about construction mail me .
In this Forum i submited 2 pictures, look at system pictures and discriptions !
Best regards
Dommi
