12Ax7s are used b/c:
1: guitarists are a conservative bunch and will not buy something Clapton, Hendrix, SRV, etc, didn't use.
2: they are mass produced and dirt cheap (when the manufacturer buys 1000s+)
3: they are easy (and cheap) to get high gain out of.
It's well known that Marshall wanted to make a cheaper alternative to Fender, and using the 12AX7 he easily (and cheaper) got more gain, and guitarists loved it, and from then on that tube set the standard...
As for 6922s going dull...never heard of it, and some of my amps are running close to 10years now and no complaints yet. My claim is it is more reliable and a better tube than the 12AX7. (Not that the 12AX7 is a bad tube, and I still build plenty with that as well, but I find it more enjoyable to go another path than the mainstream).

Yeah, that's true. Always looking for another's person sound.
From your website " These amps represent a new take on instrument amplification, and allow you to be you and not mimick some old fart."
LOL. Well said.
Indeed!
They are one gorgeous sounding tube.
I used one for a metal practise amp. Customer likes them now too 🙂
