Several times I've tried to edit a post well within the allotted thirty minuets. Typically ten minuets later, and not been allowed to. Why? Is your program set correctly, or is it really set for less time.

It really is 30 minutes. If you have something which needs to be edited and get locked out, email me or any of the other moderators and we'll help.
While it is indeed a 30 minute timeout, that perhaps is not for whole story in this instance. If you had tried to edit posts during your time as a new member (while your posts had to be approved before appearing to the public) you would have quite rightly found yourself unable to edit your posts at all no matter how quickly you try after having made the post. This is a technical issue so as to not complicate the coding for the moderation system. Now you are a full member (and I presume have been for quite some time given your number of posts) you can edit your posts for 30 minutes after having made them.
