Making a separate follow up thread on the Eminence Eden drivers bargain, I just received more drivers and I have some ideas what to do with it.
Original thread: https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/eminence-acquired-by-b-c.403321/page-4#post-7472727
Im thinking a 100l 2x12 sub 60x60x40cm and a 1x12+horn top 60x40x40 just to get some experience with the drivers.
Most likely will need a midrange at some point but without any data sheet and no measuring tools/skills this will be all by ear and trail and error.
Some more pics below. Will update as I progress. The drivers seems decent enough by look and feel. Can’t wait to test for resonances.
Ideas are welcomed. Was thinking about a large open baffle too as these drivers seems to have a high q.

Thinking about the following designs, either a 2x12 sub or two stand alone which can easily be used for other purposes later...
Just a small update for those who might be interested.
I'm still brainstorming ideas but after testing the tweeters I realize I might need to find some HF solution as they sound terrible.
It might be possible to tame them with a very high HPF and add a midrange but these are probably designed specifically for bass guitar amps with some trademark resonance peaks for character.
Not ideal for hi-fi.
So what I'm considering is:
- Open baffle: all three 12s in an vertical column/array and some larger horn at top. Unfortunately this will be very tall speaker which wont fit very well in my room. The pro of this is that it would be a very simple project that would allow me to get some experience with the drivers before doing something more complicated.
- JBL Everest style: only two of the 12s in a horizontal setup with some horn at top. Very wide speaker, also not ideal. Have no idea what horn I would go for. Would possibly also need a super tweeter then.
- Two cabinets per side: 2x12 push-pull sub in a 50l monkey coffin, and same sized top with one 12 and some mid and tweeter JBL 4312 style but tilted 90 degree. Very complex as a 4 way speaker. Would possibly need to be active.
- Tannoy buckingham / JBL 4350A large monitor style ie 80x80cm: two 12s at the bottom as bass in a horisontal setup and another 12 as mid above then some tweeters "here and there".
Other ideas?
Im also wondering about what frequency might two 12" cause interference comb filtering given a small distance between them? Ideal crossover for me would be maybe 200Hz LPF for the two 12s I use for sub and 200-2000 BPF for the last 12 midbass. Lets say there is a 36 cm between the center of each driver.

Some progress here now.
I build some tops earlier which are not complete but I have decided on a Fane 5" midrange and a Monacor DT-25N tweeter going forward here as the Eden horns sounded awful - probably needs lots of taming crossover which I wont bother at this point.
Currently using a compression driver while building the subs/bass-bins and doing the assembly of mid and tweeter.
Many things in parallel... Keeps my mind busy.
I thought they look cool and plan the same for the subs.
And Ive started the bass-bins but struggle with bracing this large monster of a box.
Whether this ends up as a 4 way monster setup or a 2,5 way with only the 2x12 and a horn who knows, I change my mind everyday about things...
Thought I just share some pics.
More will come as a progress with the whole thing.
Anyway learning a lot from building these large boxes.
I will not recommend oak as Ive done here, they bend and move and crack and what not.
Cant wait to start testing.

Some progress on the bass bins. A little baffle paint and oak stain and we’re good for the first testing. I’ve made these so I can chose different layout horizontal top mounted drivers vs vertical center mounting m by having baffle cutouts both front and rear depending on how I plan to install them in my room. Hard to explain but it will show as I progress further.
Thanks
Thanks
Baffles painted with industrial blue similar to the Heresy inspired tops. Not sure about this 12mm plywood will do, so far I have only negative experience with ply compared to MDF, pine and oak.
Vertical mode with tops (however unfinished lacking mid and tweeters). Realizing this whole project is getting out of hand.
Now connected, playing directly no crossover or trebles just to confirm they work.
First impression is that they are sensitive big sounding and they have powerful bass and goes somewhat deep.
At this point I have not attached the rear bass ports just 4 open holes, and I have no sound insulation inside.
Think this could be working as I had in mind thank goodness.
Next up is to complete the tops.

Minor update. Currently playing in a strange 2,5 way config where one bass plays full range no crossover and the other with a stock crossover and a Selenium compression driver.
It works quite well, but some peaks around the crossover point again. This should be manageable. The bass is strong. I love the sensitivity and large sound. With a 40 watt amp I have tons of loud and boom.
I will probably try to add a midrange, tame the HF and serial connect the LF find new crossover etc. large speakers is fun.

Tiny update, now built the last of the tops and stacked them in the studio desk.
Next up is adding mids and highs, make fronts and add some more braces, another layer of paint on the baffles and in general sanding of edges.
Decided to use the Fane 12 in the 2x12 subs, last one should arrive soon, and then put the Eden drivers in both pairs of monkey coffins.
Around Easter this should all mostly be ready for some testing before starting crossovers.
The goal is to have everything on the speaker side completed to Xmas.

Nice builds @fabricadetabaco ! 😎 😎 😎
I use the same Glulam wood construction for my speakers too, but with oiled Beechwood, instead of what looks like Oak on yours. For the edges, I use a 6.3mm router bit to round them, except for the smaller ones (last pictures) where I used a 12.7mm router bit.
It seems that not many of us rely on massive-Glulam wood to build their enclosures... 😳

I hope I manage to finish mine as good as yours, they all look great. Yes I use glued oak, I’ve had some issues with some plates cracking and bending but it looks decent out of the box.

For sure you will ! 😎 Assuming you never went that route : with a radius bit and a router, it's very easy...
On large enclosures, a 6.3mm radius is fine, on small ones, a 12.7mm can give better looking results, by contrast... When done, you sand/oil/sand/oil... finer and finer, and you will have a durable, repairable, and superb finish result !
Yes, crackling and warping can sometimes be an issue with some woods hard like Oak, or soft like Pine... Beechwood seems a more compliant compromise in that field : I never had any problems with it,
I built the cabinets below circa 1995, they never budged, despite several storages and removals.... These are just stained and waxed :

Maybe I'm somewhat lucky, but... 😉
