EBS3 what was your experience? (Lavoce 12" tuning)

Does EBS (extended bass shelf) give good results?

I am building a 2 way with a Lavoce 12 WAN123.00 woofer. I am considering a ebs3 alignment. This will lower the f3 from 64hz to 50hz. I am wondering what other peoples experiences have been with a similar situation. I guess that I will have to pull the 3db down above this shelf like it is part of the baffle step. I would like to be able to use this without adding a sub to make it sound okay.

Thoughts?

Hmm, the benefit of EBS is to shelve the woofer's LF response to extend gain BW via room gain, not reduce system efficiency unless it's not needed.

I voted based on this, so if either of these two reasons isn't the case in your app, then my vote should have been 'don't do it'.

OK, the room dominates down low, so ideally need to know roughly how much room, boundary gain there is, where the woofer is, etc., though in going from 60-50 Hz doesn't net you much music wise as this chart shows, so based on this I personally wouldn't bother: Interactive Frequency Chart - Independent Recording Network

That said, consider also that until at least 2000, live sound setup was primarily 'flat' from 300 - 80 Hz [vocals' bass], then 60 Hz/F6, 40 Hz/F12, mostly to ensure it doesn't 'color'/mask' said vocals, i.e. 2nd order roll-off = bass reflex/0.707 Qtc sealed, so another indicator of how little importance until one has truly low recordings at tonally balanced amplitude: Interactive Ear Sensitivity Chart - Independent Recording Network
