HI. I am an experienced sound engineer but more an operator than a technician. I am very interested in electronics but bad at maths...etc. I am technically minded but never allowed to study tech as I didnt know maths lol..
Basically I have electronic components lying around and want to build a distortion pedal. I have these special low voltage tubes I bought from USA for a tube mic that is powered by phantom power. I still want to make the mic at some stage but I have a spare tube. It is the:

Tube: V1 6418 ...
I thought maybe I could use the spare tube to make some sort of tube distortion over drive pedal/effect. I am into metal and love the guitar sound through marshall tubestate amps (my fave band Death uses them). I wonder if there is a way to mod a cheap amplifier with the tube. Or as I say make a seperate effect pedal to give it some distortion/gain.
Anyway as you can tell I am very new to all this, I just think if I am to build something then I might as well make something I will find useful and as I am getting back into playing and recording guitar I think this would be a great place to start. 🙂
Any help would be much appreciated.
Regards
Dom.

Here is almost exactly what i am looking for but it looks a little complex I wonder if there is a simpler way to implement these tubes for a guitar effect.
