Yes I did a search. Got back a 113 page thread. (Video projector 2)

Not my idea of fun.

So, is there anyone with 1280x1024 LCD monitors that are easy to convert?

I'm looking at the BenQ series. nice contrast. But if I get one I want to know that my 350 is well spent.

The 17's are just as easy or hard (depending on what you think about ripping apart LCD Monitors) as 15's. You run into the same issues with flex cables and such. Isnt really a problem. The real problem is the size of the display. Why would you want it that big anyway? The case would be much bigger then an already large case for a 15 not to mention the price for extra large custom fresnels and optics.

Not a cheap project.

The real problem is where to find a fresnel lens big enough to cover the whole screen. The biggest (reasonable priced) fresnel just barely cover a 15" LCD. It maybe much easier to find a LCD controller for an UXGA laptop lcd module.

no need to find a fresnel lens big enough. You can just adjust the display size settings for the lcd monitor and it will not be necessary to find an exact size fresnel.

My first foray into large screen viewing was a direct view fresnel lens that I purchased from a company called Maxiaids. It's one of those things the visually impared individuals put in front of their TV to enlarge the screen. It even came with a sliding holder to adjust for the best picture. I cut it down from 25" to 19", used black foamboard to make a box to block ambient light from entering between the fresnel and monitor. I gave me a 24" screen 2' from my face. . Will this type of Frenel work with a larger LCD screen?
Just for s&g's I just held it up in front of my monitor and it projected about a 40" image on the wall 10' away.
Needless to say I'm just getting started on the projection thing after my wife put a $1500 cap on my projector purchase. The one I had hopes for was $3500. but I gotta have UXGA for my games. Have to justify that $400 video card...
BTW, KILLER forum!!!
