When looking at earthquakes site I came accross this (15" model):
http://www.earthquakesound.com/supernova15.htm#chart
I was just wondering why it is so expensive ($3400)? It seems to be a 15" driver and a 15" SLAPS radiator powered by a 600 watt digi amp. Am i missing something huge here? The box is 21ish*17ish*17ish. People are selling it on ebay for $1600. That is the MKV-P. Does Earthquake have ridiculous MSRP's?
From prices I have seen on ebay and online retailers raw parts go as low as $200 for the 15" magma and mid $100's for the SLAPS Driver. So even on the high end say 300 and 175 you could make this subwoofer for:
sub and SLAPS: 475
plate amp: 350
materials: 50
at a high end price of 875.
on the low and probably more realistic side:
same order:
200+150=350
+300
+50
total $700.
So the main question is... Am I correct? Would $700 to make a supernova 15" be a good move (not that I want to) or for $700 could you make a sub that would kill this earthquake setup? Also, is it the same Magma driver used in car audio?
Thanks!

I for shoure, would used my money on this instead: http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-ultra2.cfm
I'd say 2 of the dayton 12" reference series woofers with a 1k watt plate amp would do nicely...
Your neighbors would probobly try and murder you tho
Your neighbors would probobly try and murder you tho

so you think these 12's (svs and Dayton) would get louder than 2 15's? really?
here is the T/S of the Magma 15"
1500 Watts Max
FS=26Hz
Qms = 3.5313
Qes = 0.4603
Qts = 0.4072
VAS = 7.5Ft3
Xmax = 22
peak to peak= 3"
85dB 1W/1M
Revc = 6.78
Levc = 6.3mH @ (1 kHz)

Sorry dude, i thought you were only using 1 15 incher...
In that case go for the 15s but i personally seem to think the daytons would have really low distortion and sound really good...esp 2 of em...
To beat the Magna I would use two Acoustic Elegance AV15s.

yeah, those do look good, and are a great price! I dont want to build it, just start a good discussion and see how those subs compete with other DIY projects.
