I have a question about what the correct technique is for irregular shaped POLY fills on the top and bottom metal layers.
I'm trying to decide between the following two options,
1. Editing the POLY fill with SPLIT or similar to make it the desired shape.
2. Using RECT to make a TRESTRICT or BRESTRICT shapes to mask areas of the POLY fill.
Method 2. is often more convenient but if the restrict shapes overlap with component pads and vias DRC throws up big red warnings. Which I believe can safely be ignored but seems to indicate that perhaps this method is considered bad technique.
Anyone know?

Restrict check during DRC was disabled by default in my installations. For me, this is an indication that the layer was indeed meant to be used that way.
You can enable/disable restrict checks during DRC on the Misc tab of the DRC window.
But I don't know if this fits your checking workflow. It could depend on how you use the layer on your designs and libraries.

Thanks!
Disabling restrict checks would leave me open to mistakes were components are placed too close to borders and so forth. Probably not the best idea.
So I will try to prioritize method 1. in future. Thinking about it this is probably for the best. It leads to cleaner layouts.
