Stuffing

I have a 2x10" cab at home witch has a fairly long narrow port along the bottom edge of it. I'm thinking of stuffing it and perhaps the box as well just to see what it sounds like. What sort of material would you use to stuff an aperiodic cab or TL? BAF / some sort of wadding or open cell foam? Perhaps both?

I use a very specific open cel foam (that i get from Apple service parts boxes). It works well, is easy to shape and the right price. The use of foam goes back to the original Fried Q & R and is what was in the PEARL PR2.

I have also used compressed fiberglass insulation (like the Dyna A25 and the DynAudio/ScanSpeak varioVents). It should really be sandwhiched between 2 pieces of mesh.

So...something with a low Vas you think? Am I right in thinking this would be a driver with a softer spider/surround and less springy? If so would you use low Vas driver because the cabinet is providing a lot of the springiness to make up for it?

Hi,

No.

Low Vas means a stiff suspension. To also have low Fs you
then need a heavy cone. Sensitivity goes out of the window.
Such is the nature of good bass in small cabinets.
