Hi my name's James I'm a big fan of the forum I'm co stably looking at subwoofer threads ha I'm planning to build a pair of subwoofers to compliment my stereo speakers .
I have a pair of both active and passive dynaudio bm15 studio monitors
I've been having some problems with the active pair and the amps are due to be sent back to the authorised dealer for repair when funds allow
In the mean time I've been playing with the passive version of this speaker and wondered if there was any info on upgrading the crossovers ? Could they be made bi-ampable or be upgraded with higher quality components ? Would it be worth the expense or would I be better making them active with some hypex fusion plate amps for example ?
At the moment they are being powered by a Yamaha dsp3090
Kind regards and thanks in advance James

If there are electrolytics, it makes sense replacing them with MKP types. Beyma uses 200V MKP's in their crossovers rated 600W. I have several FD250 and some of them are working with a Yamaha P7000 amp. IF you are biamping, make sure You put a large 20-25uF motor capacitor before the tweeter for DC protection. If You usea large capacitor, You can then tweak the high pass with an active crossover. If You use a smaller one say 2.2uF, You can't go low.
