Hi there,
A while ago I bought used A25 X that I wanted to re-cap and enjoy. In anticipation I had ordered 5uF caps. Today I opened them just to find out that they have 8uF caps inside and a Scan Speak tweeter... On the back of the speaker cabinet is says Made in Denmark. Does anyone know anything about this? Shal I go with 8uF replacement or go with 5uf?
Best
Michael

I think some came with scanspeak tweeters.
The XL models supposedly used 8uf.
That is a Mylar capacitor, should probably just leave it!

That 50V rating 8uF suggests to me it's a non-polar electrolytic actually. So does the reversible designation.
It's a bit curious. This A25 speaker came with the SEAS H087 38mm dome usually. This A25 X one is using a more expensive 38mm Scan unit, but similar.
The A25 SEAS XO H087 variants are below. Since it's adjustable, you might put in the 5uF and hope for the best with the scan tweeter. These sort of filters are a bit suck it and see anyway.

The single best thing you can do for those speakers is a good job cleaning and lubing that switch.
If they sound alike the chances are great that the caps are near spec, so good enough for now. When they are happy, you might try comparing one speaker with the original cap to the other with one or both of your 5s, thus 5 against 8, then 10 against 8. Don't be surprised if there is very little difference between them, these are very gentle filters & we're just nudging about.

Dynaco A25s were sold in huge numbers and were made with SEAS & Scanspeak drivers, the latter are rarer. The XO can greatly be improved by figuring out at which point the switch gives you the best HF level and replace the works with an appropriate R and a poly C eliminating the switch.
(8uF sticks in my memory despite my having recorded 5uF, the only picture i have that shows the value says 5, 8 might be specifically for the Scan version)
Also removing the metal screen on the tweeter helps considerably — at least on the SEAS version.
