What's the difference between a DVD ROM based player and a normal open frame mechanism+front end proceesor+one chip decoder based player????In term of circuitry???
different chips, algorhytms etc.
I use Philips DVD-737 boards, tweaked, with a computer CD-ROM or DVD-ROM as a transport sometimes and as a Divx player also. Strange, but the original PSU coupe with the heavy CD-ROM load with ease; nevertheless I've tweaked it.
As I am able to hear it is a better-sounding transport than an ordinary CD-player.
About circuity difference- in a DVD player w/o DVD-ROm you have front pre-amp, Servo, DSP and A/V decoder chips,
in the case with DVD-Rom you have only A/V decoder with IDE interface inside, as the ESS chips
