The amps I am working with are jbl bp1200.1 I would like to upgrade my speakers I am choosing between jl 12 inch single coil 3 ohm or else jl 13 inch dual 1.5 ohm coil. With the dvc I would hook up 2 of my amps to one speaker and with the single coil just one amp.
My logic, and I'm not sure if it is flawed or not, is that if I apply an additional 1kw to an additional coil it is like getting a free speaker in the same box.
With the single I am restricted to only 1kw amp
I need to have a better understanding or explaination of how a speaker reaches xmax and if adding additional power makes any difference at all, with regards to spl or sq. I figured I should ask before I spend any money

I have been collectiing these amps for sometime now and have a whole collection of them. Even if I push one or more into failure its not a big deal have a bunch for backups. My question was more aimed at xmax and watts required to reach xmax.
Win isd for example will say that my speaker reaches xmax with 800 watt, well what happens if I give that speaker 1000 or 1200 or even 5000? Do I just lose it to heat or am I accelerating the diaphgram quicker resulting in additional SPL?
I don't know if it makes a difference or not but I would either use 4x single coils or else 2x dual voice coils. Either way I would like to start with 4 of these amplifiers

The excursion will depend on several things including the frequency driven into the speaker and the enclosure design.
At higher power, the speaker will move further but not as linearly as before it reaches xmax. Above rated power, you can expect to burn the voice coil if the power is driven into the speaker for extended periods of time.

so i am better off taking the additional dB gain of additional speakers and spreading 4kw over 4 speakers instead of 4 kw into 2 speakers?
If you were going to use the same speakers with the 2 speaker setup and the 4 speaker setup, I'd suggest using 4.
