Yeah...this is the first time I've ever had drivers without a dust grill or whatever. The dust is beginning to accumulate. What is a safe, effective method to dust Vifa D series tweeters and P series woofers? I'm sure my finger is leaving behind harmful oils.
Thanks,
Dave

Maybe you've discovered a new tweek - a thin film of organic oil on the dome providing just a little taste of damping.
hehe, I've always found that certain frequencies at high levels of SPL can blow all kinds of dust out of the grills and off the cones. Still, the best way I have found is to very carefully use a vacuum cleaner with a finehair soft brush attachment. This way you can gently brush the dust out of the paper's pores and suck it out of the way at the same time.😀
i use one of those static cling brushes they sell at auto shops. the are used to get dust out of grooves etc...
very careful! I broke some woofers with a foam surround dusting them. Now I have an excuse to replace the lot, so it was not that bad.
Havoc:
Don't feel bad. If you can rip a foam surround just by some dusting, the foam was rotted and ready to go at any time.
If you hadn't dusted, you might have gotten a few more months out of the surrounds before the holes appeared on their own.

Dave:
I do believe the soft brush method, with or without vacuum, recommended by several here is the way to go.
As to a related question you earlier asked about how to seal off the end of your spiral Transmission Line so that your newborn won't eventually pull the stuffing out of your speaker: I recommend the metal grilles that cover PA speakers or car speakers. They should be available most anywhere that carries PA equipment, but Parts Express also has a full line. If the grilles are a little large for the end of your pipe, you can always figure out some way to take up the slack so it looks good.
There are other grilles on the pages after this:

Although the grilles don't appear to be on the Madisound website, you might try calling them and asking. I know you had a good experience dealing with them.

Hey Keltic,
Thanks for the reminder. I'm going to finally and completely finish them tomorrow (Sunday July 6th), so that was a timely post on your part. I'll be sure to post the absolute final product, although it's 100% cosmetic interests. The sound tests have been extremely pleasing. Nothing on paper, but the ears and brain are happy, happy happy.
The boy likes them, too; I think he fears them a little, but in a good way, the way anyone should fear a nice set of speakers.
