Have a Fluke meter with diode test function...handy for quick BJT tests...but is this diode test safe for testing JFETs? Was told long ago never to forward-bias the Gate-Source, but I'm assuming that the meter diode test would not hurt the JFET.
Is that the case? Or is there a danger of damaging the JFET be doing this...?

Should be fine. Base-emitter junctions are more fragile than jfets.
Not sure how valuable the test is though beyond gross shorts/opens.
