@fluid, could you please provide url from where you bought online version?

This is the link
https://world.taobao.com/item/520832497451.htm?spm=a312a.7728556.2015080705.16.rw1fg5&id=520832497451&scm=1007.12006.39884.i526038366366&pvid=fd689d99-ca83-4209-a4a7-fbe10f2536ea

It is out of stock at the moment so the link is fairly useless. You can see the other items he has for sale by going to the categories on the left. I would use google chrome to open the link otherwise understanding what is going on will be difficult if you can't read chinese.

ruizc at taobao is out of stock temporary, that's why I started looking on ebay and aliexpress but that seems to be too risky shopping because of the different versions 🙁

I don't own dac board from same designer, my plan was to try to wire it with diyinhk ak4490eq dac board(datasheet implementation).
I guess software codes should be the same...

fluid: no problem at all, I just wanted to clarify which boards we are talking bout

No problem I should have been more specific in my description 😉

Has anyone tried one of these boards with another brand 4490/4495 board?
The input selection should work anyway as it's just a matter of connecting the i2s output from the 4118 to the dac. The codes being sent by i2c should be the same but i'm not sure if there is something else which might prevent it from working with the diyinhk dac for filter and volume control. I suppose the only way to tell will be to put the diyinhk board into software mode and try it.

If you want to control the filter and volume settings you will need an online version and I think the best one comes with the pot/switch.

Send a message to the aliexpress seller and ask if the version they have is the one with the pot.

I already sent messages to some sellers and didn't get helpful answers 🙁
I'll try to ask them to share pics of kits they sale.

Anyway I'm willing to try to wire it up to diyinhk board, I think I can trace lines from pictures that kukynas generously shared.

Do you have idea which chip has MCU function on your board?

I do. Everything that you need to remember (if you want to use the "online" version with volume/filter/DSD control) is the right configuration CAD0 and CAD1 pins of AK4490/AK4495.

There is no need to trace the lines the board is marked with a legend that describes the i2s and i2c pin out.

The MCU is the large square chip nearest to the shrouded JTAG header.

Finally had the time to replace the AK4137 board with the AK4118 board and got a noticeable improvement in detail and timing.
So bottom line , the AK4118 board is cheaper , better sounding and offers remote control and one additional filter (super slow). You loose SRC but imo this feature introduced more problems than it solved.
Boards work in online mode with jumpers 10 and 11 shorted.

Hi,

I would make a dac based on AKM4495. I bought on ebay a dual AK4495 board but I am not satisfied because I want use the RJ45 i2s outpout of a Breeze audio Xmos . The association Breeze Xmos with dual AKM4495 works only in DSD mode. At each change of track, I have a high "spoke" noise.
So i want test the "smb" boards. Someone uses the Smb board with I2S connection or only with Xmos USB board ? Do you have "spoke" noise ? Someone have a schematic of the connection AK4118 + AK4495 ? Where buy the AK4495 board finished ? Thank you for your help

Hi Gordon,
you can still use SRC board if you want to by connecting it to your AK4118 board instead of USB card and put your USB card onto your SRC board so chain would be AK4137 with USB board attached -> AK4118 -> 2xAK4495

yahyah31: not sure as I stopped buying those type of boards but, current boards are available through aliexpress here and here

Ljufa: correct

Thanks Daniel , good tip. My plan is to do the upsampling on the mini-pc through Jriver but good to know what you have suggested.

Could someone confirm I'm going to wire it up correctly?
NC > NC

NC means no connection, you do not need to connect those in case you were going to😉

The 4495 boards from this seller do have a mute relay on the output so in theory this should cut down most noise between tracks. Does the ebay board you have now have a relay?

The 4118 and Dual 4495 boards are very simple to connect with a 20 pin ribbon connector. Use the jumpers to close J10 and 11 for online mode as has been stated before. That's it. Connecting your xmos to the i2s inputs might be more difficult as it is designed to use an amanero size board stacked on the headers.

Thanks I don't think that the dual AK4495 board have a relay.

So with this "Smp Cb" boards, it's possible the make a good dac same as commercial dac ?
