Greetings,
I'm curious if anyone can explain the difference between a digital cable (RCA-RCA) and standard A/V cable (RCA-RCA) for connecting a DTS DVD player to a DTS suround receiver.😕
Anyone...anyone?
Thanks in advance...

What's the difference?😱
And what's a "DTS DVD Cable"?!
Man, you're talking two digital cables with a different package.
I've seen plenty of examples of the same manufacturer selling the same cable as "AV" and as "Digital 75 ohms".
The difference iin this case is what says in the package.
And sometimes even the price is different.😱

For some reason, some digital cables are tuned to a bandpass. A friend of mine tried using his digital cable on his tv for composite video and his picture was violet. I'd imagine that the color carriers got screwed up in that cable.
carlosfm- Apparently, there is some difference. To get DTS out of my DVD player there is a seperate RCA (digital) output connector and to receive DTS on my receiver there is a seperate RCA (digital) input connector.
I've tried using a standard high end monster A/V RCA-RCA cable and no dice.😕
DUO- Thanks!!

There is no difference. In order to pass the entire SPDIF signal the cable should just be a good RCA-RCA cable.
DTS and DD and raw pcm all traverse through the same cables. Dont be fooled by these DTS cables.

SWIRV - I've tried every *******' cable in my inventory from the cheap cables included with componants to my $90 monster cables and still nothing gets through.
I'm baffled...

It sounds to me like you have an equipment problem not a cable problem. I have used several different cables in that application and never had a problem of no sound.
Just a question. Are you sure it's wired correctly and all of the configurations are correct? I had a DVD player that required going into the menus and setting it up for the desired output.
Like I said, Just a question.

PS: DTS and Dolby Digital are not the same thing. Does the receiver have a DTS decoder or is it DD 5.1?

Recevier settings
Also check your receiver settings. Many receivers have multiple digital imputs (mine has 2 coax and 1 optical) and I have to tell it which imput I want to use.

First thing, a digital cable is a different cable than a standard RCA-RCA analog interconnect. The digital cable is a 75 ohm cable with 75 ohm termination at the RCA jacks. The even 75 ohm impedence of the cable helps keeps the digital signals from smearing and helps reduce electrical reflections.
Second, you need to make sure that your DVD player is sending out multi-channel digital audio and not just stereo. You usually have to go in to your DVD player's set-up menu to change this option. I had the same problem with my first DVD player four years ago. For the life of me, I just couldn't figure out why my receiver wasn't getting multi-channel digital audio. When I switched this option, everything worked great.
Cheers,
Zach

Any digital connection should be made with 75 ohm cable.
The same for composite video.
You can use the same cable for digital or composite

One thing nobody here asked is if the digital input on the reciever is the correct type.
On the Harman/Kardon reciever I have for sale on eBay right now, it has 3 different digital inputs, 1 optical, 1 coaxial/PCM, and 1 AC-3 RF/PCM......
If the input on your reciever is an RF coaxial, you are not going to get any sound from your dvd player. That type of input was designed for old laser disc players which produced a different type of digital signal.
If that's not the case, then it's probably just a menu setting with either the receiver or dvd player.
By the way, what brand/model dvd player and reciever do you have?

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
