Non HDMI sources are the catch, I'm new to this bit, what's the easiest way to AD convert to HDMI?
For me that would be only radio anyway, not critical.
For radio I just stream it over the internet. I know of no AM/ FM / DAB tuners with HDMI output. Nor any SPDIF -> HDMI solution.
... and yes... With the low pass filter delay they are almost perfect...
Thank you for the confirmation of my deduction, it took the DSP issues to make me realize the neat way that your Summa and NS-15 avoid this problem.
The horn/WaveGuide profile is chosen for directivity control and HOM reduction, but the shallower result also makes it easier to line up.
Two birds with one stone, it helps explain your excellent horizontal polar curves.
I had reached similar conclusions to you on minimization of diffraction and directivity control, so my system naturally turned out similar to the NS-15 or Summa - A 15" woofer plus compression driver on a matched width, directivity controlled, low diffraction "horn".
Just that mine was a bit closer to Don Keele's classic recommendation and so a bit deeper.
Damn, I may have to redo that, but nice to have your input.

This is the usual audiophile dilemma--looks vs size/performance!!!...
I am reasonably unconstrained by "looks", I rather like the look of horn systems and I can please myself because it's my own home.
That also means size is not a major problem, but I think a couple of 16 cubic foot cabinets is about the limit for the room itself.
That allows a couple of Summa [aka NS-15] sized modules stacked on sub-woofers.
The sub-woofer set up is close to best practice to minimize room modes so I don't see any real performance penalty at all.
The limitation is essentially room acoustics, monster horns wouldn't help.

It seems it should be possible to daisy chain 2 nanoAVRs, run the second off the the HDMI output of the first.
Then the master volume control in the first unit will attenuate the HDMI output and hence the second.
This saves you a splitter, maybe costs you a channel?

I never mentioned a need for " a couple of 16cu. ft. cabinets". My subs are 9cu ft. using a pair of TC sounds LMS5400's in a dual opposed configuration per sealed cabinet. With DSP the subs are flat from 15hz. to 90hz. without pushing too hard. Mine are crossed over at 60hz at 24db.
A nice 3 way horn system plus subs does not have to be too big to produce excellent sound.
For home theater, a couple of NS-15's plus subs would work out very well.

I'm still back at the starting gate looking for a clean way to get high resolution, high SNR audio into DSP chips for connection to two and 3 way active speakers.
The only way to get digital audio out of an AVR is via HDMI. Toslink is often down mixed two channels and reduced resolution...
It seems to me that it ought to be possible to take a nano-AVR and "blue-wire" the SPDIF output of its DSPchip to a DAC08. Use the HDMI output of the NanoAVR to daisy chain to additional NanoAVRs, depending on how many active speakers you have. 8 outputs from a single nanoAVR+DAC08 would handle 2 3-way speakers plus 2 subs.
Ideally we'd have MiniDSP's support for this and they would help us with the software.

wow, hadn't noticed they already make a NanoAVR-HDA that has HDMI in and out plus 8 analog outputs!
