Well yes, maybe...but does this mean you are mounting the esl panels horizontal?

Just conjecture of course; Doesn't that mounting strongly bias the diaphragm toward one stator, and wouldn't that limit spl or maybe even short the diaphragm to the stator????

Diaphragms agains stators with the HV powered up is likely to burn some rather spectacular holes in things.

I was going to build rectangular pipe off the back of the ESL and into the ceiling. I would line the pipes with 4" thick acoustic foam and staple insulation around inside the drop ceiling. By the way they will be pretty big ESL's, 80"x34".
 
Probably pointless, and wasted effort.

What you end up with is a LF a sort of strange transmission line/IB setup. Better to just go with one or the other concept, and probably skip the ceiling connection. But at least see it that way.

The 4" thick stuff, if it is the right stuff will absorb a serious amount of energy above some frequency that is likely <500Hz and >125Hz depending on the material and implementation (distances etc...). So, that ends up making the back enclosure look like an IB above those freqs. The only thing left is the LF response.

Decide how to deal with that.

I said that you should decide on the type of enclosure or lack thereof as part of the design.

There is a diff between a Labrynth and and Infinite Baffle (IB) - both VERY different than dipole (open back).
