Do not think it would matter much if you rearrange the drivers on the front panel. The port however may play some tricks on speakerplacement. Front port - you can place the speaker closer to the wall, Back - move it a bit further away. Someone correct me if im wrong.

Othervise placing it on the back or the rear wont affect the design if the measurments of the port ( length etc ) are the same as stated in the plans.

driver placement

Regarding your first question, it does matter if you change the driver spacing. It will (can?) change your ampl. v freq. resp. and your polar responses. And it can be enough of a change in the ZDP plane and interdriver timedelay to maybe mandate crossover alterations (a bit extreme). The important question is by how much will it change things? The maximum allowable distance in inches between to two drivers is determined by the crossover point/frequency (bascially, the distance of one wavelength). The crossover slope is also another important factor. If the drivers are too far apart you can will get slight/more complex interference between the two: a little bit of comb filter effect, especially as you move off-axis vertically. The golden rule with tweeters to their lower driver counterpoint is usually the closer the better. You can move the spacing by a few centimeters (about and inch or more) and the results won't be tragic, but probably/maybe slightly noticeable and measureable. The higher your crossover point the closer the spacing needs to be, or at least the the maximum allowable spacing decreases.

thanks for your replys guys, i intend on moving it all down, the tweeter and the driver down the same amount, just like a centemetre, from what you are saying that shouldnt really make an audible difference and the tweeter will still be as close as possible to the driver.

thanks again
