Hi,
The first "preview" version has been released.
Still to do is:
Add the ability to add drivers 😉
Be able to upload/download response files.
At the moment, it is a database of T/S parameters.
I hope you like it...
http://www.rarkovelectronics.co.uk Then goto Driver Database
Please let me know what you think...and of course, I'l be adding more drivers in due time...
Thanks,
Gaz

I'm having some problem downloading from the page.
I am resisting downloading Macromedia Flash, (becasue I resent being told that I must do so), and also I use dialup, not broadband. 28.8 dialup, because that is all the phone lines around here will allow.
Is there any hope for me to download this? Or is it meant for broadbanders or people with Macromedia Flash?

Good effort on the database thou, what are you using for the back end?
Not to be niggly but as a web designer, hopefully some constructive critiscm:
I'd suggest losing the Flash... it guarantees that the page will break often
And frames are not cool either... (there are some very real practical reasons for avoiding them -- you won't see any really serious sites using them)
Javascript is unfortunatly sometimes a necessary evil (there is no standard for javascript so it breaks as well)
And just a personal note: i'm not a big fan of the white on the porno black background colour scheme.

Maybe I should do a few "themes". The page was originally intended for an Xbox Development site - but it just so happened that I needed it for this instead.
I will sort out a "low" bandwidth non-framed version in the near future.
I have added a scroller to aid navigation for people using low resolutions.
I never take constructive critiscm badly...always nice to know people take the time to look... 😉
The "back end"? It is ASP (using VBscript, JavaScript & Flash). Flash is used, only for that top graphic. The site is hosted in a Premium account on brinkster (using an Access 2000 db)

Then it could be replaced with a more friendly animated gif.

You still need a scroller on the menu frame - I cannot get to the database entry on your menu...

Yes, but the gif would be larger file size...
Cheers

Hi,
I can assure you they are there (two icons bottom right hand side of the menu frame). Can I ask what resolution and browser you are using?
Thanks,
Gaz

Nothing on the right side works, can't access the database.
Lose flash, javascript and forget about a career in site design.

Just trying to help the audio community a bit - not try and win a web design contract.
I will change it later and as Dave said - sometimes javascript is a necessary evil.

Thanks planet10. It's nice to be appreciated.
Tact takes too many words and it's a close relative of beating around the bush. Tact also lowers the impact of what one says. Often, so much so that the point gets lost.

Stick with the White On Black. Not quite sure what makes it "Porno black".
Save some electrons. 🙂
Black backgrounds have always been the coolest. Only reason people use dark text on light backgrounds is to make it more like paper. If you want paper, go read a book is what I say.
Seems a little bit clumsy so far, but a damn good idea. Hopefully people will start uploading some content soon. Might not be a bad idea to have an option for both manufacturer specs, and for measured specs. Would probably get a lot more stuff entered to at least give people a starting point.
Keep up the good work though. If you can get it to fly, It'll be an awesome tool.

Bill,
The other option is to build a website like yours - but I can't bring myself to design anything that boring, dull and crap.
Every opinon is based on taste - just because ours differ - doesn't mean that the intention isn't the same. To provide useful CONTENT on an audio subject.

Ah! Just accessed your site from different machine using IE6 and buttons are there, but not on my own machine using IE5. Don't want to upgrade IE as new version is crap. I would assume the buttons may not work in other browsers either - trying to make a website cross-browser compatible can be a real art....
Cheers
I agree completely.
The only really compatable website is where the body tag constist of one word <BODY> and inside are nothing but formatting tags <p>, <CENTER> etc.
That way we can include the lynx text browser in the compatablity list.
However, I will redesign it so that it is less "resolution" intensive.

Seems to me like you can say that about any version of xploder ... some would say it applies to all M$ software 🙂

Maybe everyone should start using Safari, I heard that Microsoft is planning on dropping support for Macs. I guess they lost interest since they cannot as easy collect your personal data, or sell you more of their crap.

Wouldn't that be cool... all those people switching to OS X (been running Panther for the last couple weeks -- Apple keeps making better & better. Safari is my 2nd string browser, iCab being my workhorse. With OS X there are so many choices of browsers that MS is left WAY behind. I to had heard that MS was going to just give up, but recently i've heard talk of an update.
dave
I am on the Panther as well. Love it, aldough a few fixes needed. Waiting on my G5 any day
with optical in and out for sound.

It works perfectly for me, good colour scheme and very quick in accessing the data. 10/10 does exactly what it says on the tin.
as with all web design keep it simple so it loads quick = less frustration and you cant go wrong.
