i was curious if anyone has used thier projector in an exterior setting. i have thought about using the projector outside as a sort of drive-in theater for sporting events at block parties....
1. plastex screen on pvc for 16'x16' screen. (i used this for superbowl in our wharehouse for a big screen with no problems
2. we have lots of flying seasonal insects, im curious if anyone has built a mesh cover with clear plastic front for projection. i think if i put a fan in front of the plastic, it would keep them to a minimum as far as projection blockage and am not so sure about heat issuses between the lense an the plastic...
3. i have plenty of lumens
4. as far as audio, i have a fm transmitter to get the sound to car stereo.
this could also be taken to our hunting ranch as there is very little light polution(can you imagine the girls watching blair witch or the ring in the woods!)
im i nuts or what?!!?
any other things to think about?

Yep I have taken Mine outside many times I usually just project the Image on the house tho since its tall enough( 3 stories) and its white siding and white window shades, Its preaty cool and in the dark even a 410 FXL projector can make a good 20 x 30 foot image without a problem, LOL screendoor at that size is like every pixel is 1 inch But from far away its fine, Search My posts Im not sure If i said anything of more help back then I believe I called it " take your projectors outside" or something to that effect.

...and you have to listen to the sound on one of these... with a subwoofer of course.😉

If you're in the city, don't bother unless you have really good lighting. Here in Chicago, during the summer, the Chicago Park District has a "Movies In The Park" program. Every week from July till the end of August, they show two or three movies at different parks with an LCD projector on a 30-40ft or so screen. The street lights washed out the picture too much, though they're using current technology.

Go right ahead if you're camping or are in a smaller town that doesn't have a lightpost every 20 feet. I remember one time when I was at a friend's cabin in one of those getaway communities where it's mostly woods... It's not really camping, but it's as close as I've ever been... anyways, they had a TV projector rig (one of those fresnel-over-the-13in-with-a-box-around-it things) across the way and it was visable from the cabin in which I stayed. I was a good 100ft away from the projection and could make out Bill Paxton's (I'm sure they were watching Twister).

Anyways, that's all I have to say about that.

rodd nope dont use those for the wonderful experience in sound, tho I have 4 of them with poles from a old drive in that closed( they probbably still work I just havent bothered) nope I bring out the boombox with Audio in and thats the audio for the movies, not surround sound like in the basement HT but cool in its own right.😎

I was up at the lake alot this summer. A guy with more money that me had a very nice boat docked next to where I was partying with some friends. At night, he opened up a screen across the stern of the boat (about 10ft or so) and turned on projector to watch movies.

It was a pretty cool idea, but the sound was not too good. Most of the appeal came from the novelty of it all, and the fact that it attracted women to his boat like moths to a flame.
