Agree about the JL sounds clocks being decent but not better than decent. That's why dac projects in the General Purpose Clock Board thread use external clock boards to drive the JL Sounds board, and other things such as the reclocker board, all done synchronously. Its a step up, but not something everyone likes to bother with.I have used the clocks on a JLSounds I2SoverUSB board. They're decent, though with age the 45MHz clock is now causing some background noise.
Happy holidays!

Thanks, Frank. I'm upsampling everything to DSD512 with HQ Player on this setup, and it sounds fantastic.
DAC settings:
IIR = 70K
FIR = Apodizing, fast roll off
DPLL (SW2 5-8) off, off, on, off
HQP modulator: ASDM5EC - light 512+fs; tried the "super" version but got occasional dropouts, so it appears the light version is the limit for the i9-12900 I'm using.
Nx Oversampling filter is poly-sinc-gauss-hires-lp.

Mark, thanks for reference to the General Purpose Clock Board thread. I'm planning to upgrade my clocking situation when I switch from an ES9028Pro to a 9038Pro.
@Magz, I appreciate knowing your settings. I control my Buffalo by I2C, so I have complete latitude on all the settings. I recently installed a Mac mini M4 (10 core) as a home server and plan (eventually) to experiment with DSD upsampling by that. I use Lyrion Music Server with iPeng. It makes me smile to control the system from my watch! 😂 However, it's messy to incorporate HQPlayer so there will be some patience-demanding software wrangling before that happens. The system sounds very good right now, so no big rush.
Cheers,
Frank
