Hello Members,

new idea,
a small easy double horn satellite,
down to ~90 Hz,
a little floorstander.

for the new DH Bassel, Armchair.

any opinion?

driver

Hello xrk971,

thanks for the list, most are working,
i would prefer driver
with EBP>120 Hz and a low Rms<0,8,
because you connect the driver parallel, 8 Ohm or more needed.

My test will be the TG.. by peerless, as back driver invers +- changed,
front driver is the version with white fiberglas membran,
may be hundreds of driver combinations will work.

i hope to get a linear impedanz below 100 Hz 4 Ohm and a very low
(for such construction) Membran movement down ~70 Hz so it might be a single condensator
is enough crossover and no activ filter is needed.

Most people would not consider a high Qts TG9FD for a BLH bit I think they would sound nice. I have used a TC9 in a BLH before with some success. If I made this it would be out of foam core. The max height would be 30in if I used a single sheet for a side panel. Could I refold so that length of horn is preserved ?

Hello,
most little driver have a EBP around 100 and more, my tests show, it works.

30 in height need a new construction, the lenght of the front horn makes the
construction.

foam ist a good quick testmaterial, but i have a problem with the transmission of sound
through the material in the mids.

i use:

Double up the layers and use latex caulking (same kind for household trim repair) to bond the two layers together. It really is effective at cutting down leakage of mids and vibrations which lead to noise that is perceived as distortion.

This really looks interesting though - I suppose I can butt-join another sheet of foam to get the sufficient height needed (950mm = 37.4in) or 7.4in wide strip.

I have not made a BLH in a while - I think the stellar B80 may be good and used on front while the back can use lower cost driver like PS95-8. Just need some free time... :)

Do you have any simulation results or measurements?

because you can´t simulate both horns together,
the single simulation does not help much,
but you can see the similarity to the other DHorns,
here for a satellite.

Akabak cans simulate multiple horns together.

one point is the softfibre in my construktions,
if you want to take only foam you need felt for the walls,
look the plan.

Yes, I see and have acoustic foam absorber sheets.

horn?

Hello GM,
you know the T/S parameter, the EBP is over 100 Hz, my experience
shows it works very well. Data:Peerless (Vifa) Breitbandlautsprecher TG9FD-14-08
The EBP(reso/Qes) not the Qts is important, Qts is only a number made of Qes and Qms.

It is a satellite over 100 Hz no bass horn.

Hello andrew,
my CORNER HORN is a front loaded Horn.

eck-horn

GM was (up to a point) agreeing with you Horst; that's why he referred to the driver's mass corner frequency (Fh), which is an engineering value defining the frequency at which the driver transitions from the acceleration (rising response) bandwidth, to the mass-controlled bandwidth. The former is dominated by system Q, the latter by moving mass, notwithstanding any changes that may occur to that through progressive mechanical decoupling of the cone. So -we are all in agreement. A low system Q is not necessary for a back-horn; it can sometimes be counter-productive if it pushes Fh excessively high.

Hello,
here a size view, compaired to Mini-Poasune,
sounds surprisingly, combined with Bassel in front superb,
but normally the Bassel sounds not so tight like the double horn,
single horn and bad impedance, but in combination with the
low mids of the DHsat it sounds near a double horn,
why? I think the overtones of the bass are "more" important as
the bass ton itself, sorry for such interpretation.

The DH SAT is active ~100 Hz 12 dB, under 1 mm stroke ~95 dB,
theroretical 100 dB are possible down 90 Hz, theoretical, 95 dB is max.

measurements

Hello,
quick and dirty measurements are maid,
dhsat mess
90% of sound are indirect so the loud low mid measurements are barely listenable,
the Impedanz ist superb linear, nearly deleted, very easy to handle passiv.
Next i try a wall near placement an take only 100-200µF,
Excellent soundstage, better deepness and tautly low mids, because the membran movement inter lacing works by this sat at ~150Hz.

next month i will try a version for 6,5" driver with back invers.
My new DH BASSEL olso a double horn works very good together.
