David,
you like to talk ear infections ?
How's about a picture of the one from a couple of years ago =>
Without the vinegar eardrops and anti-biotics my hearing would have been a total goner.
Some folks eat hotter chili sauce on each breakfast sandwich than most can handle in an Indian curry dish.
Homemade, bottle stuff doesn't do the zing thing anymore for the last 25 years. I once won a $25 bet by eating a soup plate of Algerian chili sauce with a spoon, coming out was more painfull than going in.
Anyone with the balls to try the major hot chili sauce recipe (sambal) from my brotherinlaw who originates from Seram, Indonesian islands region, give us a ring. Visiting my brotherinlaws family as a kid, i thought the water bottle in the bathroom was because they were so hygienic.
And some folks skip airplane rides at all costs if avoidable because of the week of agony afterwards.
Personally, i recommend to avoid the shower. Instead of going to a doctor, you could ask one overhere.
Does that make you feel better already ?

I'll pass on the colonic, but the hot showers and antibiotics seem to have done the trick. My ears are now almost clear (~85%) and residual tinnitus is pretty low, but definitely noticeable. I am sure that will fade too, but it is still pretty annoying. Now I just have to make myself get enough sleep to finish getting better! 😀
David
PS Jacco, I have no idea what in the world you did to get that ear infection, but I have never seen one that encompassed the entire OUTER ear as well! That definitely trumps anything I have dealt with! I'm just glad you SURVIVED!

Me too, that one was a close call.
A result of fragile ears (my achilles spot), a minor infection from swimming,...and total exhaustion.
So, this is the best possible medicin=>
The bacteria species mentioned in post 16 are tricky ones.
Under normal circumstances, with the right PH value and no direct contact with inner cell tissue through a disruption, these bacteria are harmless.
If they are not under control and have a way of entering, the same bacteria are cartilage killers. Cartilage tissue has no blood vessels, therefore no protection. The moment the infection spreads to a condition of the pic i posted the infection may spread all over the inner ear, you have less than a week for treatment or you'll loose hearing capability permanently.
Getting an ear twice the regular size, with fluid dripping from a thousand small cracks, occurs within hours only.
Before the anti-biotics times, many people became totally deaf thanks to these friends.
Be prudent, and appreciative of anti-biotics.
Good to hear/read it's clearing, troublesome experiences.
(colonics are great fun, sure you won't re-consider ?

My nephew (less than two years of age) used to suffer from cold very frequently and was once treated for congestion in a hospital. I adviced my sister for the colonic. Since than he is fine.
If u do not prefer the colonic, u can take a purgative/laxative of your choice.
Try this when u get that first simptom of influenza/flu. U will have no need for any other tablets and will be surprised of the results.
Additional benefiit-no side effects
Remember no doctor will advice for this.

Though I appreciate the anecdotal evidence, the antibiotics seem to have done their job and I now only have intermittent ear clogging, and can barely hear the residual tinnitus over the background noise in my house. 😀😀😀😀gmphadte said:Remember no doctor will advice for this.
If everything is PERFECTLY quiet I can still tell that things are a little off, but at least I don't feel like I am at the bottom of a well any more. Thanks again for all of the suggestions, and though I still haven't gone for the colonic (despite how much fun I am SURE everyone has when they get one 😱 😱 ), I sure look forward to my annual physical when I am sure I will get much the same sensation. . .

Hi dfdye,
As an internist during day/ diy audio addict on the side ( wish it was the other way around), I just want to reply to your post to let you know there is some hope for you. Physicals should not include the pleasant colonic exprience you are refering to. In the past prostate exams were done manually with the finger up the wazoo. This is no longer needed as there is an alternative better test for this. However, you do need to go for colon study after 50 which is a different story altogether.
Regarding the tinnitus, you should look on the bright side. You no longer need to worry about the S/N of your source, AC line noise, powerconditioners etc... It may not be a bad thing at all 😉
Hope you continue to feel better.

I must admit to not being able to hear most of the voodoo before I was sick anyway. As long as I have used decent components, I must admit not being able to hear the difference between them anyhow. The exception to that was that I had a TERRIBLE headphone extension cable that always sounded like I put the headphones in a tub of water. I never could figure that one out, but when I got a decent cable, everything was right with the world and the cable "disappeared."
I have noticed that with a lot of supposedly "vital" components: As soon as a certain threshold is reached, I can't really tell the difference between them. Call me dead ears McGee, but the biggest differences I hear are with drivers, and then a STEEP runoff to the amplifier. Most other stuff is interchangeable (within reason) as far as I am concerned. It may indeed be that I don't have high enough quality gear, but for now, I'll save my money and use the $2 AC cords. 😀
PS The bum-finger is unfortunately still standard practice around my neck of the woods. There may be alternatives, but don't think they have reached my Dr.'s office yet.

Well, i'm not so sure.
A century ago i did manual labor in a hospital, on friday afternoons Dr Excavator had to be assisted while he was shoving a shiny black hose 2 feet down the hatch.
Each friday afternoon was guessing time which aria the guy was humming during the rectum concerto.
A year ago i had to get a rectoscopy myself, a day before the event i starting praying the guy wasn't going to do a humming routine.
I could have sworn everybody had his/her finger up Ripley before final resurrection time, including the security guy.
Still, could be worse, the g/f got one of those Alien hose implants down her throat up to her stomach a year before that. Another doc receiving the other end of the stick, so to speak.

Even though i've attended a lot of those examinations too, it again gave me the feeling of running on an empty bottle at a scuba event, sitting beside my girlfriend.
