Double CD player from CDROMS

I assume that this forum is the correct place for discussing homebrew CD players using a microcontroller/CDROM drive combination.
I have done a webpage about a project aimed at adding a little more features to such a setup:

http://www.astro.uu.se/~marcus/private/mcd1.html

Note that this is still only a partial project description, since it is not complete. However, it may be of interest to someone. I am particularly curious to see if someone else has built something similar.

Best wishes,

Marcus

Thanks for the links!

In the thread with number 17910 I see a couple of people
mentioning a point that I'm wondering about in particular -
Is there some convenient way of altering the
pitch of audio playback on a CDROM drive?
I did not see any responses to this in the thread.

I have seen some hint in the IDE CDROM
specification that the number of audio frames per second may be
an adjustable parameter, but on my Samsung drives this value
was masked as read-only (E version, did not check AE version).

An interesting experiment would be to inject a signal from a
frequency synthesizer in place of the 33.8 MHz master
oscillator in the drive. However, that would probably not be
more than just an experiment.
If, on the other hand, the drive would still operate properly
at + or - 10% clock rate, it could be an interesting continuation
of the project.
