Does powering an 8ohm sub via a 4ohm amp make sense?

I have a rockfor power 500 which is 2 ohm stable per channel @250rms and when bridged can churn out 500rms @ 4ohm. I currently wired it to my subwoofer(12w6) which is stable at 2 ohm using only one channel of the amp. Will it make better sense to bridge my amp to 4ohm and change the configuration of my sub-woofer to run on 8ohm? Will this work better?

would make sense to get a different amp or sub, but i would either run the sub at 4ohms per channel, or 8ohms bridge. either way, you only get 250.. but some of those rockford 500's are actually closer to 400, than 250. my t5001bd was pushing between 1100-1200 rms @ 1ohm
