Do you need a lot of power?

Still using a set of PSB Stratus Gold (4 ohm, originals). 86 dB/watt approx - until I heat the voice coils up and that drops. I like some music very LOUD.

So I peak a Marantz 300DC at times. I have yet to peak a Yamaha PC2002 or a Bryston 4B cubed. I was worried about the speakers though.

I'd like to try a set of Klipsch RP7 III, and I would absolutely love to have the Klipsch Jubilee speakers my friend has. Those are stunning at any power level, effortless. Those are driven by a pair of Bryston 4B cubed, electronic crossover.

So, how much power? Depends on the room, speaker characteristics, amplifier characteristics at higher power levels and your own preferences. Some amplifiers have the power rating, but phase angle of the load can trip them up. There are times a 35 wpc Eico HF87 (tube amp) was enough with the same speakers, obviously not terribly loud. You do have to plan for peak to average ratios of approx 15:1 with clean material on a digital format.

Hey OS,
Higher magnet strength may overdamp the speaker. Its a design tradeoff.
