...or where to find some info/help on the subject?
I was given a 'broken' Boston Acoustics PV800 sub, a guy I work with figured I could do something with it. It has a BASH amplifier, with power on the PS emits a high pitched buzz (like a camera flash cpacitor powering up). I checked every stage and tracked it down to the PS. There is one large cap in the PS, a 200V 680uf, that's domed a bit, I'll replace it. I don't know anything about this type of power supply and don't know if there are any common areas to check first. Suggestions?

bash amplifier pv800
i too got a broken pv800 from a friend, the bash amp appears to have been melted in a few spots? I was just wondering what you ended up doing with it?

It ended up in the trash heap. I didn't get it to work.
They are pretty cheap online (can't remember where offhand(google) or you can buy a really nice plate amp from Steve at Apexjr.com at a great price.

I have a BASH here with a bad power supply. When I'm finished reverse-engineering it, I may be able to help.
The bash is a commercial Switch mode power supply (SMPS)
device that runs it's amp class G (variable/dynamic voltage)
for more efficiency.
It seems this amp is not too well designed (no offense)
or they wouldn't be burning up so regularly.
I spent nearly 200$ just to get a REAL 250W DIY sub
amp which is almost as much as a new BASH.
The 620uf cap is most likely the line level reserve before
the switching FET's (same as a PC PS)you should
go to the "Class D" forum as some of the gentlemen
over there build their own SMPS's and would likely
'jump' at the chance to diagnose/comment on your BASH
problem....
OS 🙂
BTW, I do know how to repair SMPS's (car amps,PC, monitors)
but the guys over in the Class D forum are "gods".
