Dan Erlewine is one of the best guitar finishers out there IMO. And a great teacher too. I have a couple of his finishing videos.

Wow, I didn't even know Watco made laquer - and I've used Watco products for years.
Have you tried Behlens laquers??? I got introduced to them doing guitar finishing.
I mainly use Deft satin laquer for my speaker cabs. 5 or 6 coats sprayed (spray can) on. Buffed out with #0000 steel wool. Makes a real nice finish.
