The best book on lacquer finishing is the one on guitar finishes by Erlewine and McCrostie from www.stewmac.com. Hands down. Indispensible.

Dan Erlewine is one of the best guitar finishers out there IMO. And a great teacher too. I have a couple of his finishing videos.

Final point - I don't use Deft lacquer anymore. I switched to Watco nitrocellulose lacquer with far better results. It dries harder and polishes out way better. Unfortunately, I have heard that Deft bought them a while ago so I'm looking for another easily available nitrocellulose lacquer.[/B]

Wow, I didn't even know Watco made laquer - and I've used Watco products for years.

Have you tried Behlens laquers??? I got introduced to them doing guitar finishing.

I mainly use Deft satin laquer for my speaker cabs. 5 or 6 coats sprayed (spray can) on. Buffed out with #0000 steel wool. Makes a real nice finish.
