I feel like I've read at least a dozen threads on half a dozen websites. It's a lot to go through and I may have missed where someone answered one of my questions. Pardon me if that's the case.
What kind of sound pressure levels are typical? I've enjoyed tube amplifiers for a while. I'm hoping the low powered SET amps can drive them effectively. Does adding additional panels and exciters have the same impact as with coned speakers...ie, would 4 exciters (2 parallel, 2 series) yield a SPL increase of 6 db?
What's the effect of adding mass to the back of the exciters? Would that increase the SPLs? Would that come at the expense of something else?
I'm curious if anyone has experimented with those thin gorilla glass screen protectors, tablet sized. A crossover with 4 panels of thin birch ply or XPS surrounding a single center "tweeter" of screen protector is my idea at this point. I'm not sure how to mount; the heat shrink window film seems to be a reoccurring theme.
I'd appreciate a critical review of these ideas. I have no interest in repeating a failure that I can learn from now.
