I want a 300B or 845 PP kit . .

The only 845 PP is at http://www.diyparadiso.com/outerlimit1.htm , and alas too big $ for me.

The only 300B PP is also at diyparadiso. Value seems ok.

One person at AA posted enthusiastly numerous times re diyparadiso, that they’ve been in business > 15 years, sound great etc. He has some very interesting designs on his site.
Their boss Benny seems to really know his stuff, but gives IMO some er somewhat “odd” responses to some of my questions.

Frank here has endorsed him.

Anyone else have knowledge or experience of diyparadiso or Benny?

Thanks

Be VERY carefull.

I had no direct experience with Benny Glass's Kits, however I have had indirect ones.

A few years ago an on-line aquaintance contacted me about help to stop a kit he bought from there from humming, as the kit was bassed on my published "legacy" design. On more checking I found out that key design element (regulated +B supplies and regulated heater supplies) had been removed without correcting for their absence, on the main reason I believe that they where unneccesary and would only impede performace.

He however never managed to get Mr. Glass to give him the neccesary information to make the partial kit sold to him by Mr. Glass to work correctly, despite many attempts, so I in the end I helped him out.

So, after profiting from selling a kit as "designed by me" Mr. Glass failed to provide the required support and left it up to me to do so on my own time and for the main reason that he was sufficiently incompetent as designer to alter my design such that it actually still worked after his alterations.

While my aquaintance protested Mr. Glass good intentions and honesty, I found several month later a significant number of material taken from my own web-pages without permission psted on Mr. Glass Website and on top of this he included the botched up version of my design HE perpetrated and criticised in a rather disagreeable way. I took long e-mail exchanges and threats of legal action for him to remove copyrighted material posted illegally.

I never quite sucessded in getting all material removed and a number of comments that I consider severe misrepresentation, relating to "problems" in designs of mine, which he discovered, when in reality these problems where a direct result of his "improvements" to my designs (an example are his pages about the TDA 1541 Non-Oversampling DAC).

I do not know (nor care) if his claimed own designs are any more competent as his bungeling attempts to "improve" mine, but buy only if you are sure that you can corrent for massive design deffects on your own ability and if you consider his kit's good value for chassis and iron.

Isn´t 100 % true I bought a Mario 300B kit and a few resistors and caps to build a version of your Legacy design without regulated +B supplies. Benny tried to help me but as KYW wrote it was KYW to fix my amp problem. I spent a lot of money with amp I had to buy another power transformer to get a 420V B+….. a mess. BTW I never built regulated +B supplies because the chassis doesn’t have room to do that.

You have a BIG memory!

To KYW:
I like to learn so I read almost your posts they very informative.
I made many devices with your schematics, TVC, Open baffle speakers, dacKlone, …, they are great (THANKS T.L.). I also built a current gainclone in the past you didn’t help me (I understood you, isn´t easy help everybody) but late I found a post (in diyaudio) from you and I build it (THANKS).
Only one device disappointment me it was EL84 stage from my 300B amp (Too much power but no detail). Benny advises me to change it (THANKS). Now I have a 5842 (CCS)+300B and sounds great.

To rick57:

Benny is very helpful guy. Aquablue sell great parts. If you`ll buy a kit from Aquablue pay attention to shipping cost and what exactly you will need. I never build an Aquablue kit so I don´t know how they sound and please don´t build Paulo 300B Legacy schematic BTW is not my version but Benny version. It hums like a cow. (Se necessitares de mais informacoes escreve-me pessoalmente).

PS: Sorry my English. And I’m not an electronics expert.

My main system:
Arcam Alpha 5 (mod)
2xTDA1541A Dac NOS
TVC
Tube amp
Open baffle speakers (supravox non-bi + supertweer)
