diyaudio.com domain problems?

Probably _not_ the DNS server

from how it looks at this point.

I did think at one point when the problem seemed localized to Belguim that Frank's DNS server might be spotty, because I could resolve it by pinging, yet he could not.

www.diyaudio.com will resolve to the IP by pinging now so it doesn't look like a DNS problem at this point.

My guess is that it's something Jason will have to sort out

DNS

Hey there,

One good reason to use use static addresses?
I warned against disasters like this years ago at the big S*****S
company before. They didn't want to listen.
I'm still convinced it is a DNS prob.

Bugger...It can take days to solve this one...

Oh well, were on line so who cares.😀

The fact that we are here sort of proves it is a DNS problem. www.diyvideo.com resolves to the right IP address, but www.diyaudio.com is, for some reason, not. That it took a couple days for everyone to have the problem points to an issue with the root servers. This could be caused by a glitch at ICANN where the database is kept, or at the nameservers which specify the final bindings and feed the big database. The two domains use different nameservers. diyaudio.com is at rackspace where Jason works (IB) and diyvideo is at sitepoint where we are now 404ed when we use diyaudio.

We won't know, i guess, until Jason surfaces... he could well be buried under a huge workload if something at rackspace has failed...

could be DNS

it may be resolving to the wrong IP -

more than two or three potential scenarios here.

I said _probably_ but by no means wanted to leave DNS out of the question completely.

We would need to know more of how the site is configured to be able to say more about what is actually transpiring.

And if I knew a lot more than I do about how the site is configured, I'll be the first to say that I do not consider this to be an area of expertise for me.

DIYAudio

Good day;

Just a note, I am in Sydney, Australia. I was not able to access DIYAudio starting Friday evening, (GMT +10) do not remember the exact time. I have never recieved a 404 or a error mssage of any sort, just a complete blank page.

For what it is worth.

I have been swamped with more important things(what could that be) this weekend, so I really did not try to access more than a few times. I have been having trouble with my firewall, so I thought that I may have a local problem. I did not get in to the site until I received the E-mail from the DIYAudio administrators, giving the link through DIYVideo.

I have been around this forum for quite a while, actually for over 2 years. I just have not become a pillar since I have to feed and clothe a family these days. Seems to cut into your hobby time.

I will do some messing around from my end and see what I can come up with. I am not a computer guru by any stretch, but I can muddle my way around cyber-space.

diyaudio.com is back

Things are now back to normal and you should be able to access www.diyaudio.com without problems. I spoke to Jason the site owner and it appears that rackspace (the hosting company) changed some things on Friday and the DNS entry for diyaudio got rather muddled.

p.s. For those who were wondering, Jason is a Sys Admin at Sitepoint

p.p.s. Thanks to Jules (the other Sitepoint Sys Admin) for fixing the problem and getting us back online.

EDIT... Changed George to Jules...
