Re: Regarding the Infocus 7600ws...

I had a quick look at the specs for this lcd panel (albeit, on an e-Bay sale page, so source isn't 100% guaranteed) and it says the panel has a contrast ratio of 15:1

Now, I don't know, as I'm still figuring out this stuff, but isn't this a *very* low contrast ratio? I'm experimenting with a panel with a 100:1 ratio, and I've been told that that's still not very good, many-hundred:1 is the ball park we should be in.

Just wondering, as the Infocus 7600ws can be bought cheaply enough, but there may be a reason for that...

thanks,
dave.

yeah they can be found at a pretty good price. But i'm still weary on them... since the infocus guy said it wasn't made for it, it's made not want one.... but if he says it works... then maybe theres potential in it. 🙂 would be cool if you we could see an actual video of each panel in action... 🙂

I know with the 1650 i have, everything literally had no blur... I have a tv card on my computer and was watching tv on the panel full motion no problems. I played Half-Life on it (very hard holding panel in one hand, playing game with other...) and it was 60 frames a second easily... very smooth.

Shazamm!!

I got my Nview Viewframe panel in last week. Guy I bought it from (off ebay) forgot to send me the VGA cable, so he shipped it separately and it came in yesterday. I was able to get it hooked up to my old 486 computer which has just been gathering dust for some time now. I put a Reveal TV500 video card in that old dinosaur years ago and plan to 'assign' that computer to full time tuner/video input status. The 486 isn't fast enough to handle a DVD player in it's own right, but the Reveal TV500 does have auxillary inputs, so I could just run my DVD player in that way if I want to. I can't really comment on the 'quality' at this point since I don't have an OHP to test it with (wanna bet that 'problem' gets solved a LOT QUICKER than some of the others around here?). It seemed to work fine, but all I could do was hold it up to the window of the fading light of dusk and drool.....

The best I can tell, the Nview Viewframe is a 640x480 resolution panel with maybe 2 million colors and is active TFT. At least that's what my 'googling' leads me to believe. Not sure of the contrast ratio, but I thinks it's a passable 100:1. Two things to consider about this particular panel. I know there are better panels, but I'm not (at this point) looking for perfection. I plan on building this whole unit (PC, OHP, Panel) into my rear patio deck off the master bedroom (did I mention the deck isn't built yet either? lol) and shooting the picture onto the back of the house. I figure something in the neighborhood of four or five feet diagonal would be nice. You know....sitting on the back patio sipping a cold one and watching Monday Night Football.........I'll post some pics of the panel later. Thanks to everybody here for the 'original idea'.

Enjoy.

the spectra c. i want to use that panel for normal use to. is there already a light behind the panel ?? i want to use it has a second monitor too. sorry for my bad english. I just mean if the panel is on i can see the colors good.

there is no backlighting built in for a spectra c. it does have a monitor passthrough, so you can still see a monitor with it on.

as far as being able to see it when its on, unless you have a bright light directly behind it, you wont see anything. i thought mine was broken when i got it, becasue you cant see anything through it, unless it has direct light. (not a bad thing, its just how they work)

Hi ppl,

I received my OHP today, not a metal halide one (yet!) but i was surprised how white the light was. It takes 400W EVD lamps.

I have been testing with an old STN laptop panel whilst i wait for a nice sharp/nview. I was very surprised how bright and clear the image was, filling my whole screen in complete daylight.

One question for if i was to upgrade it to metal halide. Would a 400W metal halide lamp create more or less heat than a 400W Quartz-halogen lamp?

cheers,

Hello

I a going to complete the Infocus 7600ws test today, and i will write the whole summary of my test. i will try to get my friend to bring his Digital camera over so that i can post the picture that will be on the wall. all i need from you is tell me what to test, and what pictures you want. I am going to be using Dukane Quantum 680 for the test as a lightsource.
also, all results will be posted on www.diyprojectors.com , so make sure you take a look at those. we will try to get as many reviews there as possible. wish me luck....

HI

I BOUGHT TWO GLASS FRESNEL LENSES FROM GRIANGER.
IT WAS A DISCONTINUED ITEM PROBLY NOT LISTED IN THERE NEWER CATALOGS. BUT LUCKLY I GOT THE SUPER OLD CATALOG.
THE FRESNEL IS A PART OF A HID RECESS LIGHT FIXTURE TRIM& LENS. ITS NOT THE TYPE OF LENS YOU SEE IN A OHP OR SHEET MAG.. ITS 9"X9", 1/4"THICK, ONE SIDE: HAS 3/16"CIRCULAR GROOVES THE OTHER SIDE IS FLAT BUT IT HAS BUMPS LIKE THE SIZE OF (GOOSE BUMPS ON HUMAN SKIN). I HAVNT TRYED IT OUT YET CAUSE I NEED TO GET A LIGHT SOURCE AND SELL MY HPS SETUP. $12.00 EACH IF YOU COULD FIND THEM AT THE GRIANGER STORE(S). I HAVE A FEELING THAT THE GOOSE BUMPS MIGHT FU*K ME OVER. MAYBE IF IT DONT WORK OUT I'LL SAND THEM OFF OR SOMETHING AND TRY TO POLISH THE GLASS SHINY AGIAN, IF I CAN, IF IT COMES DOWN TO IT.

IF YOU GOT ?'S ASK ME.
😀 😀 😀 😀

PS WHATS UP WITH SPECTRA C DOSE IT LET MORE LIGHT THROUGH OR SOMETHING?

hey you two...thanks for being realy A$$HOLES...

I posted up here about the site I was building...
www.diyprojector.com

and I read the board today...and what do I see Aleksy posting about
www.diyprojectors.com

Jesus Christ!!! I understand it's not like there was any kind of patent or trademark on this, and my site isnt even up right now...but damn!!! Couldnt you think of anything else besides adding an 's' to my domain name and trying to take credit for any ideas/thoughts I had. What is wrong with you guys.

Its bad enough I visitted this forum less often because of Aleksy's constant whining and complaining, but dudes...that was not cool...especially reading stuff on your site that I spent the time to post on this board.

I would go on ranting and raving about how pissed I am that you two would do that (because I know you got the name from me - and are putting up exactly what I said I was goint to) but I have a meeting right now and I am sure the other people on the board dont really want me to go on about this here.

Gotta go...
and good luck to everyone else,

Dave

The site actually belongs to me. And as for your "rant", you can check the domain. It was registered before you EVER mentioned building a site. Plus, it's not like the info you said you were going to post is unique. I mean, its pretty standard stuff. I built my site before you said anything to this forum. I had just been working on it in the background.

And as far as the domain goes, once again, not rocket science. I wanted to build a site, and I went to a domain registration page. Checked which were available, and bam! DIYprojectors was available! I didn't even know you had the other... Since mine was in information site, not necessarily JUST about my projector, i got "diyprojectorS". I didn't even KNOW you had yours.

And why does this have to go in the DIY Projector Thread? Can't you put it as it's own thread?

400W metal halide will produce less heat than a Quartz Halogen.

Heres an update, beginning construction of my outer casing. I know my reflector housing is pretty raggedy, but, I'm working with NO TOOLS here, so, give me a little credit.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

many, many breather holes, fan holes, and cable holes are going to be cut in it. It looks pretty good so far though. I might spraypaint the whole thing when I get done with it. Power supply/ballast fit nicely in it too.

Hang in there buddy

I hear you Dave!!! So now there are two of you with very similar web addresses and neither of you with a website! I wouldn't get hung up on a flashy domain name (that's like soooo late 90's dude). There are too many permutations to worry about. After all, your diyprojector(s).com addresses are a close assimilation of the title of the forum we are in and I don't see the owner (whoever that is) in here complaining.

That said, I agree that the individual in question here has acted extremely juvenile at times (perhaps he is and I'm just sensitive because I'm an old fart (45), but I do think it was cheeky and uncreative of him to play off your idea.

Enjoy 🙂
