SLIZE the only point of using an LCD monitor is the fact that they have a higher resolutions and contrast. In your casem you just purchased a monitor with 200:1 contrast. that is very low for a monitor. i am using the one that has 350:1 and still i would like to purchase a monitor with 450:1 contrst ratio later on. i mean what is the point of using a big 15" lcd with almost same contrst as the top panels which have a lot smaller screen?

slize the more contrast and pixels u have the more light u need to shine though lol just think how manny screen doors are in your new lcd! heaps lol very close together wich means more light blockage, anyway this cant be helped its just part of science but the contrast deffinatley makes a big diff as u say, anyway if this new lcd u got looks crap it would make a nice monitor, u got it for a good price.

you bet wrong, it is not compressed; look at the specs in the link i posted below... 1280x1024 is the native resolution...

look at the pixel width specs at ebay (Punktabstand):
it says 0,239 x 0,239 mm
normaly it is something like 0,29 x 0,29
for me it sounds like there is few light blockage because the pixel width is smaller...
and the contrast is not that important because i can adjust it with Dscaler finally on my pc. I'd rather wanna have more light coming through the panel and less contrast than a contrast of 600:1 and a bad picture because it is too dark...

yeah slize the contrast is the first thing i wind back i hate a pic with a glare or a sheen to it ie:contrast even my monitors contrast is wound back lol i like a sharp bright pic but thats me lol looks like u to bud.

by the way:
don't worry about a sharp and bright picture on your projector; with your mini resolution of 320x240 dots you won't get a sharp picture at all... 😉

Do you even understand what is going on in this forum? As ACE sai, having a highter resolution for a same size LCD displays menas that te one wit higher resolution will block MORE light. in your case, i do not even know why you need 1280x1024 panel? Why would you need to have resolution that high? That is just stupid, because you could have just purchased and XGA panel with a higher contrast ratio and it would surely work a lot better. And if you read up, my panel is 350:1 contrast, and that is 150 more than yours. Trust me, when we show each other the results, you WILL see the difference.
In your case, having SXGA panel is just a waste of light, and production of unnecessary heat from a larger bulb you will have to use. And it is not like any one of us here will use that high of a resolution in our rooms.
And the last thing.... GOOD LUCK FINDING A FRESNEL FOR 15.4" MONITOR 🙂

slize ummmmmm do u know what u are talking about? why wouldnt i get a sharp picture or bright picture with my 5.6inch lcd? i can get more light through mine than yours , concentrated light that is, and as for sharpness that comes down to the lens u use not the screen, u can controll the screen with the contrast setting lol as i told u i have mine set to sharp meaning more light gets through and i get a sharp picture.

yes i have, i used a 5,6 PSone tft (320x240) at first, and it looks like crap compared to what i have now (756x568 PAL)... and i will get 1280x1024 can't wait to see that picture...

i WILL get more light on the screen than you, because i don't have to enlarge my original picture from the panel as much as you because i use a 15".
Just imagine you want to have a 100" projected picture. from a 5,6 panel the magnification factor is 17,85. My magnification factor is 6,66. That means each dot on my projected image is 2,6 times brighter than yours. so far for the brightness of your picture.
now to the sharpness. nstc format is 640x480 that means you have half of the resolution of nstc enlarged to lets say 10 times bigger... that HAS to look crap...
by the way: i don't worry about enough light, i have a 400W MH bulb with 45000 lumens...

The amount of light has nothing (at least theoretical) to do with the dot pitch of the LCD.
GOOD panels with high res. are almost as translucent as GOOD panel with lower res.
In these panels the pixels are smaller (less translucency) BUT they are spaced closer together (more translucency).
Now ask yourself this question: What will be a GOOD panel? A shitty panel for consumer electronics (car/portable dvd/tv player) or a $2000 15" panel?
What you should watch though are the response times (likely to be crappy for the NEC as it is an old panel), contrast levels (also crappy, 200:1 is just too low) and size; 15.4 is just too big for a fresnel. Likely you will end up with a 1024x1024 display. Better go for a good 1024x768 panel with good response times and decent contrast levels.
And I'll say this again: DONT WASTE TIME/MONEY ON ANY PANEL THAT IS USED FOR PORTABLE CE!!

well mine was my first for just an experiment, some seem to forget that no names slize to see what i got with different lights and lenses, its was a learning curve, nothing for a pernament use, i have posted that before, im getting anew 6.4inch lcd ok its 800x600 native 1024x768 compressed and contrast is 200:1, its coming out of an old infocus lp220 and i have seen screen shots of this lcd in action and i am inpressed, im getting it for $60 so no great loss if its crap, in the future in the near future im going dlp for a second projector or my main movie projector, that way i get both worlds for a reasonable price and 2 small units i have room for.

Alot of light is nessecary, but if you can not waste that light with over head projectors because alot of light is lost between the stage and the lens, a custom case would be your best bet also you should choose a lens that a low focal length 150mm to 300mm is best for 14'' and 15'' inch lcds the lens will only have to 12 inches away from the lcd use this equation:
D=F(S/A+1)
D=distance from screen to projector
F=focal lenght of lense
S=area of screen
A=size of lcd
