DIY "universal" preamp?

I want to experiment with different tube preamp circuits to see what works best for me. There are a number of Chi-Fi modules or kits available that one can stitch together, do some mods, and if you pick the right peripherals like power supply, input switching, remote control, etc have a semi-universal platform kind of like the "27 in 1" kits in the back of Popular Electronics. Part one for me was finding a decent looking enclosure that looked good and is big enough even to fit 6SN7 tubes in. I ordered this and it arrived today. Very impressed with the fit and finish. Shipped flat packed by DHL, no instructions but was fairly easy to assemble.: Brzhifi audio electronic tube amp balance preamplifier aluminum chassis with VU meter head box size:430 *100 *330mm|Amplifier| - AliExpress
I also ordered a remote control input switching and volume board, a transformer, and a couple different preamp boards to get started. While not exactly DIY, it seems like a good way to cover a lot of ground quickly, plus I am tired of my projects looking like @$$. Excited for the rest of the parts to get here and get started...

Bit late for a chassis, but who knows. I use 19" sub rack parts and a variety of top plates, so all my projects are modular. I regularly change the tube sections - all I have to do is screw in a different plate and connect it underneath. I love the flexibility, and I've been building this way for 10 years so I have a large variety of top plates, which are all 275mm long and 40, 50, 70 or 100mm wide.

Search eBay for "Ventilated Iron Plate Tube Socket Shock Proof",excellent for modular work. There are three or four sizes (the external dimensions are the same but the socket holes are different) and they can adapt a wide variety of sockets.

I have built myself some tube preamps. Started about 30 years ago with the swedish Remus from Jan Lodstrøm. I built probably 4 different versions, always point to point soldering. A single stage with the 12b4a is still one of my favorite. The simple single stage preamp with Just one ecc82 (diyaudioprojects)sounds Great, perhaps a little bit to much gain? But it is easy to built, perfect as the first project?
