I am planning to make a DIY turntable to go with my DIY amp and speakers. My first turntable will be a low budget simple design to get my feet wet.
I have a decent platter and bearing from an old turntable I will modify.
The tone arm will be low buget NOS Sonus Formula IV. I already have a Sumiko Pearl and Stanton 680ee. Can I get a better high compliance cartridge to match this tonearm for about $100? Maybe something on Ebay. Does it deserve something better than a $100 mm cartridge?
I have two Maxon motors to work with. One is a 26mm, 6 watt, 24v. The other is 32mm, 15 watt, 36v. I will turn the pully myself. Should the pully diameter be close to the load speed of the motor?
The Teres motor control seems a bit too complicated for my first try. I have read where the LM317 and L200 integrated circuits have been used. I am thinking of using the LM317 voltage regulator followed by the L200 motor control, or the L200 by itself.
Any advice about using these or variations from the Design Documents examples. Can I just build the L200 motor control design example using the formulas given?
My plinth will be MDF supported by spring, foam and rubber isolated feet. I will mount the tonearm to the plinth. My motor and power supply will have seperate enclosures.

That site is where I have looking for ideas. There are some very interesting designs submitted to that page. Although, I did not find any information on the L200 IC being used for motor control. There is a small amount of information regarding the LM317 IC.
I have been studying the images there to get plinth & platter ideas, motor housing, etc. Some the designs there are very impressive.

I am also a bit confused about the current rating needed for a DC motor power transformer. Should the power transformer be rated up to the maximum continuous current or starting current?
I there a place on the web to buy pulleys for a variety of motor shaft sizes? I was planning to turn my own, but being able to purchase one would save some time.
