DIY TOSLINK cables?

Hello, everybody. I've been away from the forum for quite a while, doing other stuff (mostly work).

But I'm back into building a little Raspberry Pi based player, and I want to connect a the optical output of a HiFiBerry Digi+ board to the optical input of a T-amp.

The shortest cables I can find are described as being 50cm long, and I would ideally like to get cables around 20cm (or less, but that might not be feasible, I suppose it depends on the minimum bend radius of the cable).

I found this thread, but not much detailed info about cable types (glass v. plastic) or how to fit the end terminals to the cable.

Can anybody help me out with advice and information?

I have some toslink plastic fibre cables there is a "press thingy metal" that holds the fibre in place, like those used on PATA computer hd cables. Cutting is easy, but should be straight. If you see the red light it should work. I managed to transmit Digital Audio using a led attached to an old soundblaster card.
