DIY SO8 to DIP8 adapter

Here is a cheap way to make an SO8 to DIP8 adapter if you don’t happen to have those fancy PCB adapters around. To make the adapter you need a DIP8 socket that has opening in the center with square corners. SO8 chip fits pritty perfectly this opening when inserted underneath and stays in place without glue. Center pins (2,3 and 6,7) can be soldered directly to DIP8 socket. Outer pins need some extension and is best done with thin wire wrapped around the pins and then soldered.

As a side benefit you get some readily accessible test points, with less chance of causing damage than probing directly on the pins of an SOIC. (Shorting pin 6 to pin 7 with your 'scope probe is NOT a good idea. Don't ask how I know that.)

Or, perhaps better yet, you get some sockets that can accept passive component leads for quick experiments.

Come to think of it, many single opamps don't even use pins 1, 5, and 8 so it's not necessary to spend as much time as you first guess, going cross-eyed while looking through the magnifier.
